gears

lets say if i put 3:73 gears in my 87 tbird 5.0  would i have to change any other parts that have to do with the differential or is it just buy the gears and put them on thats it no more extra pieces to buy

speedo gear off the top of my head, and unless a shop is do'n the gears or ya did it before, which i doubt sence your asking, youll need special tools. you could get a turbo coupe auto rear and get disk rear brakes probley for the cost of new gears. and anyway, yes gears make a big difference. my car takes off like a bat out of hell with the 5 speed and 3.73s im go'n down to 3.55s.

I've heard this before; "If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be doing it yourself." This is probably one of those things to leave to the shop (installing gears). now the installation of a TC rear is something that's commonly done and doesn't need a shop to do

You really can't get the backlash right...  I've tried to install gears like 30894032908 times.  Everytime the gears just got ate up.  So i swapped the whole rear.  It's reliable now.
84 TC 302 -5.0L/t5/7.5 locking rear and a 3.45 gear, Edelbrock Intake, Aluminum Heads, Edlebrock 65mm Throttlebody, Edlebrock Cam, 24lb injectors & MAS Air Sensor calibrated via chip,  BBK headers, Catback H pipe, Magnaflow lers :evilgrin:
