Head room sunroof vs none

I'm looking at a sunroof 88 cat, but I'm 6'2".  Any idea how inconvenient this would be for someone my height?

Thanks

Sunroof...probably not too bad.
Moonroof (power)...you will definitely notice.

In my old '88 Sport with the power moonroof, I had to lean the seat back a little just to be comfy (I'm 6'0" but mostly upper body), and climbing in and out was not fun at all. Smacked my head on the roof daily.

Come to think of it, that could explain a lot about me.

Anyway...after that experience of driving the Sport daily for almost 3 years, I vowed never to have a factory moonroof Cougar or Thunderbird again. It was nice to have with the roof open, but otherwise it just took away usable headroom. Besides, if I want the roof open I have the convertible.

So in short: if you're less than 6' tall then a power moonroof car will be comfy. If you're taller, you'll suffer.

I have no problem. I'm roughly 6' - 6'1"
If the car has a power driver's seat which chances are it does, just lower the seat. Mess with the tilt and whatnot and you'll be fine.

One question though... why don't you go sit in the car to try it out? Obviously like the old saying goes, results will vary. Try the car out to see how it fits you and to see if you have any issues with it.
I love my moonroof and wouldn't give it up.

I don't know what Eric's problem is, I have never hit my head.

I'm 5' 11' and have no problems "normally" with my power moonroof 88 TC. Again as mentioned, my car has power seats, and I do have the seat base quite low.

The only time I run into a problem is at the drag strip wearing my G-FORCE full-face helmet. It rubs on the headliner and if you try to get in the car whilst already wearing the helmet, you will hit your head.

My problem(s)...where do you want me to start? ;)

I hit my head every day due to the roads around here coupled with the stiffer sport suspension. I don't like a ghetto lean to my seat...it has to be more upright to be comfy for me. So I tried to compromise between upright seat, and not with my head resting on the headliner. It was muy dificil. In the end I found a halfway decent seat back position (2 clicks back from all the way upright) with a slight forward tilt on the power seat, and that did the job enough. Even then, with a bump the top of my head would hit the rubber rim that surrounds the moonroof, on the headliner. Not fun.

You also have to understand that I need good lumbar support. Put the seat back too far and the power lumbar pad ends up too high to be useful.

So now I just bitch about it like an old man. :hick:

BTW, I've got a power moonroof in my '98 Mountaineer, and with the power seat all the way down but back nearly upright, there's still only an inch of clearance over my head. Like I said, I'm all upper body.

Thanks for your input, guys.

The car is too far to sit in it and find out I don't fit.  Does anyone have one in Texas I could sit in?

I'm long necked and like my back more upright in the seat.  Since my neck's not long enough to drive with my head out the moonroof.  I think I'm going to pass.

You guys have been a great help in getting me enough info to make a buying decision.  I appreciate your input.

I'll add one more.
A sunroof/moonroof is a deal breaker for me. I'm mostly torso too, and my head will occasionally touch the headliner with the stock seat. I'm only 6' with 30" inseam. With a helmet there is no way to be comfortable for long, especially with one hour track sessions with the roadrace stuff.
I installed a lower aftermarket racing seat and it gave me room for the helmet and was actually more comfortable and supportive on the street too.
All this with the solid roof.
But I would have to say, try and sit in one if possible and find out for yourself.

At a hair over 6ft. no Moonroof for me either(I've had 3-4)... I didn't hit my head getting in or out, but no way in Hell could I wear a helmet with the stock seats... Even without the MR, I keep the seat as low as possible in the back... Barely have enough clearance with a helmet and I generally don't try to get in or out with the headgear...

In or out with a helmet is a sure way to "ring your bell" and scuff your helmet. I keep the back tilt of Layla's seat almost all the way down all the time, and like I said the helmet rubs. John is 6' and he fits OK w/o the helmet, but it's "interesting" watching him try to squeeze the helmet on once he's in. He's also mostly legs though. (That sounded weird :hick: )

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

6'5" and with the seat all the way back and tilted a little back, and I just fit in my Bird. If I was any taller, the car would be for sale.:hick:
