Keep an eye on that 22 lb. cat.. we have one cat here who got up to about 20 lbs. and became diabetic as a result of being so overweight. Now we have to give him pills 3 times a day.. and he's just packing on the weight again. (wasted away quite a bit before we figured out what was wrong with him)

That's how I feel about dogs. :p

Actually dogs are dumb, that's why they make such good pets.  They're forgiving and loving all the time... not moody and particular as cats are.  Sure, it's fun to watch kittens play, but dogs are the more lovable of pets, IMO.

Heh.. couldn't respond until now, one of the cats came over looking for attention.

See, I've never really had the problem most people seem to have with cats. People have often said that our cats are the friendliest cats they've ever seen. Maybe it's because I share some traits with them.. (I'm not a "pack animal", I don't always want to be bothered with other people, etc.) maybe it's because I don't try to heap attention on them all the time and expect them to eat it up like a dog would.. maybe it's just that undefined reason that cats, dogs, and kids seem more comfortable around me than around many other people.. (even mean dogs seem to feel more able to interact with me than with their owners, although I have no particular love of most dogs.. except German Shepherds, maybe. Same with kids, I don't really care for kids but they seem to like me.. and with cats, people who own supposedly infamously unfriendly cats are amazed that their cats will be nice to me) who knows why?

At any rate, I tend to take a more negative view of dogs mainly because of their owners and their stated prejudices against cats. (feel sorry for anyone I ever catch trying to harm one of my cats.. because I'll interpret it as an attack on a family member, and that person might find themself staring down the business end of my Mauser) If less dog owners badmouthed cats, I probably wouldn't say much about dogs.

I guess I'm just not a cat person... in my experience, cats are too high-maintenance.  Meaning that they're all about making you ear thier respect.  Dogs give love much more freely.

I'm definately a dog person. I'd never hurt a cat, but I wouldn't get one as a pet, personal preference. I've always had a dog and would be lost without one (I was for a few months, it was terrible). If I needed something little I'd get a pug or french bulldog. I also like squished faced dogs better.

I had a really cool article on dog vision that I'll dig up when I get home in case anyone's interested. It makes a lot of sense regarding the differences between the two kinds.

I have a black Himalayan that's pushing 15 years old (ancient for a cat) that's affectionate to the point of acting jealous when I pay attention to other cats.. even cats he's on good terms with. More often than not, he'll even come running in from halfway across the house if I call him.

My fiance gets annoyed with me now and again because the two cats she moved in with want more attention from me than from her. I don't really go out of my way to endear myself to those cats, especially not over any of the other cats in the house. It just happens.

I guess I just know how to deal with 'em. I don't see cats as demanding that I earn their respect or anything like that. They're just there. I see them as often wanting their own space just like I do, and occasionally wanting to interact with others just like I do. I rarely try to force a lot of attention on them all at once. I may just pet one a few times if they're laying near where I'm walking by, and then keep on walking. If I treat them that way long enough, eventually they come looking for more attention.

BTW, someone needs to check his PMs more often. :p

Phyxius, Heidi looks so much like Buffy, it isn't funny. She even had that pink spot on her nose when she was the same age.

To show you the level of my obsession with this dog. :p
