i thought gears would help alot too and ive planned for 3.73's too be next on the list of things to do for a while, but after getting those heads, im leaning to a full HO swap. im very torn on what to do. if im gonna put a cam in, i want something a little more then a plain-jane HO cam. but with SO pistons i dont have much choice, and i really dont wanna tear it down completely for new pistons. so i think i'll go regular Ho swap (cus i dont have much other choice). and then later go 3.73's.

a 2400 stall converter? whats in there stock? and how much of a pita would it be to put one in? i gues about as hard as pulling the trans?

Dude, don't get down if anyone is pissed after their mods it was me. 1st mod to bone stock 88 5.0. Paxton sn2000. Didn't feel much different. Call the supplier. You don't have a gear or a motor. Ho top conversion and 3.73 gears. Go to the track. 16.5. You wanna talk about pissed. Granted it wasn't tuned,  exhaust and the tires weren't helping but still 86mph at the traps :(
You're doing far better than I for less money. Just my 2 cents.

I still have an HO computer laying around.

2400 stall is a baby compared to what the "fast" guys run. Good street manners, yet will still make a huge difference.
It's Gumby's fault.

Stock is approx 1600/1800... Yup have to pull the tranny...

It's a definite "to do" when swapping engines...

B&M sells a cheap 2400... Everybody will yell junk, but I had the 2K version and sold it to chrome302jr... He sprayed the hell out of it and that converter never hiccuped... For a fairly stock NA engine, I'd buy another one...

1.7 ratio roller rockers would be a good and relatively inexpensive upgrade you can re-use on E7's, GT40's and other heads as well.

Its from an 87 Mustang, also has that chip we discussed. Its speed density, so itll be a direct swap.

ok shawn, we talked, now i gotta ifnd time to get it.

i still have trouble beliving that it runs high 16's. whats stock for an 88 5.0? the kid i work with brought in his dad 2000 4.6 5 speed convertable stang for an oil change, he kept saying how slow it was and gave me a ride in it to show me. i think its safe to say that a car like that would rape mine. pretty sad to know youd lose to a car tha some poeple think is 'slow'.

Got a Hot Rod mag around somewhere with '87 TC vs 5.0 test(not where it thought it was)... I believe the times were approx 16.2 -16.4 with the TC edging out the 5.0...

Here's some Bird times I found on the net... First time is 0-60...

The '96 LX must have been a ringer, cause I don't think my '95 would run 15s, Woof Woof, Bow Wow(dog)... It does go fairly well when I gag it, just doesn't seem to have much before WOT...

that stang has 260 hp stock. thats over 100hp more than a cougar.

Think of this. Stock Mark VII's have the 225hp HO. They run the 1/4 in around 16.2-16.4. Youre running just a little slower than that in a car with maybe 180hp and probably only weighs a couple hundred lbs less.

yea, i like the way this sounds better.im really close to beating a stock mark, rather then no where close to a stock mustang. and if, just for arguing, im 300 lbs lighter then a mark, and i do a regular old HO conversion, that should put me right at 16.0(give or take). i'd settle for that.
