Question 'bout Dell computer power supply

My father has a Dell Dimension 4600 or something like that - it's about 14 months old, has a P42.8, regular ATA hard drive and AGP video.  Being 14 months old with a 12 month warranty, the power supply has ped out - it doesn't do a thing. I know the PSU is different in my newer Dimension 4700 because I have SATA and PCI Express, but I'm wondering if Dell still uses a proprietary pin configuration on their psu? I remember reading somewhere that Dell PSU's are identical to regular PSU's except they have a different pin arrangement on the ATX connector. Is this still true? I can easily re-pin the connector on a regular PSU to match the Dell, but before I plug anything into the motherboard I'd like to make sure... Anyone got the pinouts for Dell and/or regular ATX power supplies?

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I'd put money down that it's a proprietary power suppy, it's prolly gonna have an extra connector somewhere to the board. I'd say if you only have the ATX connector an AT connector and the pentium 4 connector (little 4 wire one), you ought to be able to just drop a normal ATX powersupply in it. Otherwise you'll most likely be going back to dell for a new PS.
