Help needed asap

Got lucky and got 2 NOS headlights for my 87 Bird. I have removed the old ones to change them but am curious what the trick is to remove the brackets so I dont break them. Thanks in advance for any insight and any rapid responses since at the moment I have no headlights and I would rather not re-install the old ones.

Remove the bracket from the car or the light housings?

From the car, 4 nuts and it falls off.

From the housing, there's 3 plastic pivoting "toggles" that the adjusting screws go through. To make them release their tenacious grip on the housing (the way I just did 5 minutes ago), read on.  Refer to the attached pic as necessary.

Get some long needle-nose pliers.

Get a VERY small, thin-bladed screwdriver or similar.

Reach into the gap with the pliers and gently grip the toggle so you're holding both sides equally, like unscrewing a wingnut.

GENTLY turn it a bit clockwise (to the right) until the "flaps" just barely contact the edge of the "ramps".

Use the screwdriver to lift the flap above the sharp leading edge of the ramp, while applying just enough pressure with the pliers to keep it from slipping back off. Or leave the screwdriver wedged in there, and use another one for the other side.

Go to the other side and lift the other flap over its ramp.

With both flaps released, continue turning the toggle 90 degrees, until the cogs line up with the notches and it can come out.

If you do it carefully, you won't mangle the parts too badly, the assembly will snap back together like it's from the factory, and the toggles won't fall out the next time you turn the screws to aim the lights.

Repeat on the other two, and you're done.

To install, insert the toggles through the holes, and turn counter-clockwise (left) until the flaps snap over the ramps and hit the "blocks".

Class dismissed. No running in the halls.

Well, they are in and now need to find new corner lamps as the H/L's make them look bad, anyhow here are some pics. Thanks again for the insight.

I think there's something wrong with the lights. They seem to be missing the dull, yellowish "anti-glare" coating that prevents them from blinding people standing more than 2-1/2 feet away. :D
