there arent any on 87-93's, I really doubt they're on 83s. maybe you're thinking of throttle position sensor? what makes you think that's the prob?

The '83 5.0 has the EEC III system and does have a crank position sensor.
It sort of has the same function as the stator in the EEC IV distributor.
It would cause ignition problems.

No it does have one because its in my hand right now. There are no sensors on the distributor at all. So the only sensor to tell the ecm to fire is the crank sensor. In 84 they moved to tfi modual on the distributor. But I am not sure if this is causing my no start condition occationaly

usually if something like that goes wrong, it'll fail completely.  Like you'll drive the car all the way home then when you go to start it again it won't work... but if it is occasionally works i would assume something else is triggering it.

AUTOZONE CAN CHECK YOUR SENSOR.  I looked it up.  Just go ask them to check it, and they will tell you if it is good or bad.  But have the person that has been there the longest test it.  Cause some people don't know cars.

Andrew believe me and everybody else when we tell you
"your car has no crank sensor" as you call it.
Crank sensors were not available on these cars until the 90's,i believe when the 4.6l was introduced.
Now i know i'm right so i won't argue with you but think what you want.
Post a pic of the part you have in your mand and i'll bet we can name it,and it won't be a crank sensor.

Dominator  He is right.  Some fords came with a crank sensor.  Its 33 bucks from autozone.  I've never seen them on a t bird but hey its got one.  Most of the ones I've seen were on 351's.  It used the distributer for just that, Spark distribution.  The distributer was hollow inside.

Oh yeah, to answer your question is going to be hard....  This is one of those sensors that can do alot of dumb things.  It is a magnet so it can be weak and erratic in sending its signal all the time so your car will hardly run.  Or it will cut out when its hot.  Or it will just die.

Hey man you proved me wrong  my bad.
If this does exist on your car, they can go bad and definetly cause a no start condition, they can also have itermitten problems(start,no start).
Being a ford fan i thought i had seen it all, guess i learned something new today.
