Just bought 88 XR7

Okay, for some time I have been a fan of cougars. They are a coupe with some fast body blood. I found a guy who sold me his 88cougar for $200 after he blew rear main. It is white with blue interior, I will be pulling out most of the interior for sale. Also if any one needs a set of 5.0 heads, I got'em. It came with the white rims and has brand new Cobra cooper tires. Also, a 86-89 Lincoln 5.0 engine pulled running, comes with the deal. Just got the car hauled and got engine moved to my shop yesterday. Also I went to Oreilly's autoparts and picked up upper intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket kit, valve cover gaskets, throttle body gasket, new belt, upper and lower radiator hose, and a radiator bypass hose. I want to get the new engine lookin real nice. This is my first engine overhaul, not complete breakdown as I dont feel like spending a lot in the engine because I would like to overhaul again with a bigger engine. Its got the AOD tranny, which I like, It looks like a hurst shifter and sits up real high, like in camar/firebird. I don't get to go to the shop until after work (3pm) so this is going to take some time. Also I picked up a ac delco engien stand, going to get the engine dolly today to hoist it. Whats the best method of deleting the a/c? Is there kits available? or has someone down a custom? Any pointers on would be nice.
Thanks,

Nice purchase and welcome aboard.

To delete the AC you'll need the AC delete kit for a Mustang. Might have to make some slight modifications to it but I'm not entirely sure.

Feel free to post up what you are selling in the For sale section.  I have a blue interior as well and might take you up on some of the parts you are stripping.

The FRPP A/C delete kit (and possibly others) requires that the power steering bracket be switched over to a 5.0 Mustang one. I would also recommend changing the pressure hose on the p/s to one from a Mustang without A/C. It's shorter and won't wrap around and hit the header and burn a hole in the hose, sending hot power steering fluid all over the engine compartment when you're on the turnpike going to a car show.

Ask me how I know this. ;)

Anyhoo...nice ride! Congrats on the purchase.
But what's up with the hood? Is that smeared dirt or something?

Awesome,
Also what is that accessory on front passenger side at the bottom?  It looks like a heater core circulator?? If there is such a thing...
I would like to get it removed also.

That's the air pump. It's part of the emissions but is useless really.

Haha, i bet this cat wakes up a lil with eliminating a/c and air inject.  Any body got special req of interior/exterior/5.0L parts?  I will make sure and set them aside!
Thanks

Good car to start with. One step at a time, and you'll get it done.I started from scratch myself.Show a couple of pics of the interior.Your shifter is probably the factory floor shifter.Take GOOOOD care of it.They are hard to find, and the cable that shifts it are even harder to find.Nice car.Where are you located?

What do you plan on stripping from the car?
You can pm or email me with the list and I'll see if I need anything.

I don't want to request something you don't plan on removing...

I am in Oklahoma, I will be stripping all interior, except HUD for right now.  The shifter im not sure about, I will just need minimals to keep car running.  Later I will get into replacing gauges and shifter.  I will get some pics of the interior also.  What is the difference in these water pumps?  One looks rigid and rusted and the other is curvy.  Im trying to isolate the best one.
Thanks,

Okay I am at a point where i need help. the manual doesnt have the accesory layout diagram.  I have 3-4 pulley bracket  peices and havent the slightest idea where each goes. I think im going to run the short belt route w/o the eliminator kits for right now, but does anyone have a diagram for the pulley layout?
thanks

Okay, I got the accessories together.  The previous owner left a brand new 180degree  thermos inside manifold.  I got the engine completly done, including deburring the intake/exhaust runners.  Also I ran little 1/4" tunnels inside top corners of exhaust runners (between valve seats). Another week and I will have the interior up for sale.
