Gettin' rid of body mouldings February 03, 2007, 08:37:02 PM I'm getting my 88 painted this Spring, but I really don't like the look of the black bumper and side mouldings. Has anybody seen how the car looks with those removed and of course repainted underneath properly? Posting pictures would be great. Quote Selected
Gettin' rid of body mouldings Reply #1 – February 03, 2007, 10:30:38 PM well from what i've seen, getting rid of the trim on the body is sketchy. look at your bumper-covers, the trim is "built" into them. if you take the trim off that connects to the bumper-covers it looks py, you can tell something is missing. but from what i've seen around, if you leave the trim that goes to and from the bumper, but shave the side trim off, you get that smooth look im sure your thinking of. Gettin' rid of body mouldings Reply #4 – February 05, 2007, 08:47:43 PM yeh, but on that bird he might have taken off the trim behind the rear wheels, unless he painted it silver. on an 87-88 tho the rear would need to stay b/c the bumper cover. but yeh, he still has the trim infront of the front wheels. Gettin' rid of body mouldings Reply #6 – February 08, 2007, 10:54:11 PM I had the same wonderings with my 88 Cougar, ended up putting some decal on the bottom to keep the flow. I think the only real disadvantage is if you park in a lot, you have no protection from people in adjacent cars who slam the doors open. Lost the molding protection ;( Quote Selected
Gettin' rid of body mouldings Reply #7 – February 08, 2007, 11:33:01 PM I'm also getting ready to have mine painted, and had the same thoughts, but, decided to leave the moulding on because some idiot will eventually bump my car with their door. Quote Selected
Gettin' rid of body mouldings Reply #8 – February 09, 2007, 01:18:08 AM Well I wanted to keep this under my hat but .... Anything for a member right! I know it's pretty ragged but it conveys a rough idea. Another perspective perhaps... I haven't been much help as a member have I.... http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=9818&stc=1&d=1171001708 Quote Selected
like the look Reply #9 – February 09, 2007, 04:38:46 PM I like the look of those stripes too, after the side moulding is removed. I'm thinking more along the lines of the Boss Mustangs of 1970 era or so. They will be painted instead of vinyl, so the look will last and can be customized to my taste. Quote Selected

Gettin' rid of body mouldings Reply #14 – February 26, 2007, 07:12:43 AM Sleeper, you've got to paint the inside of your bumper cover flat black. The orange looks bad, but the openings look good. :) Quote Selected
