double sided trim tape removal January 19, 2007, 08:45:42 PM i've absolutely had it with the trim on the side of my car. im ganna shave it tomarrow. i know that there will be dirt and double sided tape where the trim was. i was wondering the best method of getting the double sided tape off without screwing the paint job up completely. ive decided to primer the car very soon so i dont mind a little bit of on it, but like i have a zippo so i got some ronsonol lighter fluid, and right on the label it says "excellent for removing labels, tar, grease, and oil stains." you think itd work without screwing up the clear coat too bad? any other methods or anything? double sided trim tape removal Reply #2 – January 20, 2007, 09:11:35 AM If you've got an auto paint store nearby they should carry a special rubber wheel that goes on the end of a drill. It's specially designed to remove that adhesive. I've personally never used it but I know some people that have, and they really like it. It's not expensive either. It's about 6" in diameter and is a putty color. Quote Selected

double sided trim tape removal Reply #5 – January 20, 2007, 11:52:27 AM ah you see, i used my dad's tools (he has everything you can think of on his work van -- he does maintanance on heavy and light forklifts) and i moved out now and all i have is a metric - ase set of wrenches and 2 philipshead screw drivers. a drill, although cheap, isnt in my budget yet. goo gone sounds interesting but im worried it might mess up the clear coat. i might try both the lighter fluid and the goo gone and see which does a better job. if either one messes up the clear coat im just ganna go ahead and primer it all together. i got everything to mask it up already.
