amber front blinker insert removal

ok i've been staring at this the entire time i've had my car.  you know the little inserts that are inside the blinker lenses?  i've always wanted to get rid of those and tint the entire lense a natural amber color.  has anyone been able to take the insert out without wrecking the lense assembly?  i think i've seen some completely clear blinkers on some cars on here.  also, this is way off topic, but does anyone have any 87 headlights (all 6) in good condition sitting around?  now that i think about it, some non curblight fenders or 87 tc f bumper cover.. depending on the responses to those hyjacked questions i'll post a WTB thread.
