goodbye PA turnpike

i get my daily dose of all the compacted news and events on one show called Lou Dobbs at 6pm each day i can.

after sinking to a new low last night, i still cant figure out what direction this nation, or the world for that matter is heading.

last night,
-Illeagals in the us for atleast 18months are granted full social security benefits.  My mother-in-law is on social security and she does not have dental, nor do most elderly on social secuity.  I thought eating right was the key to good health but without a dental plan to cover the mouth, how can one eat good?

-US Farmers lobby to grant amnisty to thousands of migrant workers in order to harvest.  These farmers claimed they were unable to find anyone to (in one specific case) pick brocolli for 15 or 20 dollars an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They are liars.  Congress with grant what the farmers are asking which is good news for those who do not really care.

-Meanwhile the state of Georgia is still debating how it has been possible for them to have been providing in state tuition for illegals in thier state getting an education paid in full by third and fourth undisclosed parties.

-The first working day for the demecrats leading the house,,and they took the day off,,for what?  a football game.,yep thats right., your congress hard at work 24x7 (24 hours out of a 7 day week).  congress is in session 3 days a week incase some of you did not know.

-NY city blasted with a strange smell closing the doors of shopping and schools as well as most public service.  The smell coming from the ground and no one can figure out what it was or where it came from,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Meanwhile in TEXAS , a dozen square city blocks were closed off by police because thousands of birds were found dead on the ground and no one can figure out why.  Terrorism has been ruled out but i wonder how they even came to this conclusion.

this brings me to tonight,,,
-Southern Pacific Railroad has operations in mexico and employs mexican Engineers to transport from Mexico to the US.  Southern pacific has convinced the homeland security and the congress to allow the trains to steam forward past the boarder and avoid inspections so the engineers can save time and get home to thier families quicker.  If we think now is a time to be worried about jobs, just wait until illeagals arrive by the box car load.  Dont be amazed if you hear that a train pulling box cars modified with greyhound bus type interiors are serving refreshments to illegals as the make the long trek to a far off distant location , services which the tax payers dollars of the US and Canada have footed.  If you hear this, remember you heard it first here.  There is a new plan in motion now like Nafta which combines industries resources from the tip of south america up the the northern reaches of Canada.  Its coming, be watchful.

-Today Congress gets a late start on thier actual first day in session. They started about 1:30 in order to allow for late flights due to the previous ball game.  These flights are out of your pocket on a weekly basis as a perk so multiply that by however many of them get that perk.

-Goodbye Pa Turnpike,  Congress has allowed the PA turnpike to be sold to the highest bidder for road maint as well as toll booth operations.  The land and all associated assets will be sold.  This is happening in NewJersy as well and i can only predict a trend.  Was it not our tax payers dollars that built the department of highways?.  Perhaps Pa will experience a drastic reduction in taxes coming soon.  Top bidders so far is spain and i believe austrailia.

I think ill make a thread and update it with little captions or highlights of the days events,, if for no other reason but to open some eyes to those who dont catch the news.

Well...maybe it will suck less now. Ever driven it? The only good things about the PA turnpike are those awe-inspiring windmill/power generators right outside of Shanksville. Otherwise you're looking at a cement wall for 500+ miles, and smelling cow manure from all the farms that border the turnpike, and merging because--surprise--there's road construction for half of your journey. If going private will fix it, I'm all for it. It needs work badly. The tolls are already too high as it is. It's not like another $1-2 for a trip will matter that much, if indeed the turnpike is "fixed".

Had the election gone differently, Ohio would have had a new governor that favored privatizing the Ohio turnpike. Not only was he a jackass and a liar, though, voters saw through his B.S. and thankfully did not elect him. Apparently the Indiana turnpike has gone private, and Ohioans got a whiff of that and said, "No thank you." Truthfully, Ohio's turnpike is really not bad at all. It's mostly 3 lanes from the PA border to Cleveland, the road is smooth, most sections are new, there are new service centers, and in the wintertime the crews take pretty good care of it. Ohio is a relative bargain when it comes to turnpike tolls (although they did go up last week, albeit slightly). Ohio's turnpike doesn't need "fixed"...so why this dude thought we needed to go private was beyond most people.

PA....it needs fixed in a big way. Sorry man, but I have to say it's about time. BTW, PA is a commonwealth just like Virginia, so if lawmakers could tax the air you breathe, they would LOL. They've been collecting tolls and taxes for decades and the road still sucks donkey nuts. A new era may change that. Or not. But it can't get any worse at this point.

yep, ive driven the pa tpk and i know the trek wel..  I cant see any part of our property we as a nation own,, become the property of another nation.  You gatta have some standards even it they do suck at the current moment in time.

I can see all the employees being transfered into the new company and all the prospect of being just a couple years from retirement lost to the highest bidder.

Sometimes ,,ok,, most of the time i project doom and gloom.  This administration cant help but do the wrong thing consistantly.

I disagree wholely, the tax payers land is the tax payers land. Whats next, sell our national parks, ? why not sell other state land,, perhaps next would be your land the goverment says is going to be sold.

We americans need to realize something very important.  We are a startup nation suffering from our terrible 2's.  We need to grow up and understand that we are'nt superman and all those other super heros who feel they can save the world.

Being 2, its possible that with good guidance and direction, we may pull our heads our of are tail end.  Who will foster this direction is beyond me,,lets hope it wont be bush again as he as outwardly suggested making it possible to run for more than 2 terms.

I think the PA turnpike is a scandle! From what I know (this could be wrong), the toll booths were only supposed to be active until the turnpike was originally paid for. It paid for itself in full in a very short amount of time, but they left the booths there and kept collecting money because it was such a money maker. BUT THEY (roads) STILL SUCK!! I think I heard that in school, I forget :grinno:  :nkhk:  but have heard the smae story from more than one person...

...And for crying out loud, next time any of you people decide to travel on the PA turnpike, PM me and we can meet up or something. I live about 4 miles form the New Stanton exit. Be social :beatyoass:  lol j/k

When was this? I think a president attempting to repeal the 22nd Amendment would make headline news. I tried a google but mostly just found bloggers of questionable intergity. :D

surprise--there's road construction for half of your journey.

I travel the turnpike everyday, and it just seems like it will never end. And why can't they just do one section, finish and move on. Every 5-10 miles theres road work sometimes cut down to one or two lanes, and God forbid lanes shift it throws half the drivers into a panic. And between mid county and King of Prussia has been going on for like two years now. By the time they are finished with that section it will be time to start over again.

What? that's the best part. Just cruising along, everythings good, road sucks but you're making good time then all of the sudden....

...Where the hell did my lane go? Why is everyone slamming on the brakes?

I just love how the construction completely obliterates traffic patterns even on the hours that they aren't working.

I'm surprised that the story about a Texas restaurant chain accepting Pesos hasn't made this list...

Oh geez.  I was hoping no one would bring that up.  If Pizza Patron wants to accept pesos, rubles, returnable cans or uncut diamonds who am I, or anyone else, to object? I can't even think of a reasonable rationale for a law prohibiting the voluntary acceptance of ed near anything that's not inherently illegal, i.e. stolen property, in exchange for a pizza.

Accepting pesos is a voluntary accommodation for their customers the same as the acceptance of U.S. dollars by Canadian merchants is an accommodation for their customers. Neither is required to accept foreign currency as legal tender so other than the currency - you should pardon the expression - of the illegal alien debate this is a valueless debate.

If people in America can't accept pesos, then people in Canada, Mexico, The Bahamas, Aruba, Venezuela, Thailand, Australia, Ecuador, etc. can't accept the US dollar.

Good point.  CNN was throwing a fit about this when it's like ummm, why should be able to go to another country and spend the "almighty American dollar" but not allow other countries to do the same here.  It's probably because Americans are too lazy to try and figure out the conversion rate.  Lord knows back when I worked at a pizza place if someone would have brought in something other than USD I would have been like WTF GTFO, unless the computer had a list of how much the food was in all kinds of different currency.  There was hardly enough time to count out people's change and American dollars, let alone  around with some other countries cash.  That's just personal experience though.  If the place goes and properly accomodates the acceptance of foriegn currency, then I say cool.

I do however think it's BS that we are selling our land to other countries.  It should most definitely only be able to be purchased by United States companies.
