Digi speedo light(base model)

you know, it's frustrating, when 4 mechanics and a handfull of other people give you bad information. I even called a ford specialty mechanic and he told me that the whole speedometer would have to be replaced because the light was integrated into the unit- the same thing that 3 other mechanics told me.  others have told me it was  1 big bulb in the middle that i could reach under and replace without taking it apart( really not true)...uggg. i finaly took the dash cluster out and lo and behold! it was just 2 bulbs at the top of the speedo cluster that you unscrew from the cluster and pop new ones in.

Sorry, but it has been really frustrating, but now at least it's fixed.

one question though. i was carefull not to pull the wire for the shift indicartor too much, but after it is all together, the indicator doesn't work right past reverse,  (D) is showing halfway between N and (D) and D is in the (D) position. did i really screw it up? it's not a huge deal , i guess, but it's annoying.

al you do to readjust the indicator is remove the lower column cover
find a white platic strap with a tiny little screw holding it to the column.

with the shifter in N ,rotate it ccw or cw till "N" is dead center.  that should even things up, unless the lil cable is kinked or damaged.

btw, stop talking to dealers about these cars. I was told "sorry sir, i cant help you and besides, this car was made when most of my techs were in elementry school.  Even if i could help you, i dont have the factory manuals for these cars anymore"

yeah, just because a car is older, most people want to write them off. i really like my car and even if i had the money for a newer one, i think i'd rather put it into my Cougar.

Dude, these cars were written off when they were new. They've always been redheaded stepchildren. I remember several times when, at the dealer for service with my '84, I asked questions to the service techs and got the same generic answer: "Can't be done." This was concerning HO conversions, HO swaps, and running dual exhaust like Mustangs have. Obviously, when you're young and have long hair and maybe give the impression that you're new to cars, some people don't want to give you the time of day. That's when I took matters into my own hands. And that's also why I try very hard never to tell anyone that what they want to do "can't be done." BTDT, and I swore that I'd never do that to anyone the way it was done to me...
