Or piss poor job of doing the intake gaskets. I did it on a very cold day, in an open garrage. I wanted to just get it donw and go in. I'll check that first and see where that goes. I can cuss and swear if it is a head gasket and drive it if it isn't.

if its glaringly obvious that your intake gasket is letting coolant into the oil, okay. if not, it would be worth your while to pull the heads and check. seriously. looking at your engine bay you got it pretty good in terms of accessability of, well everything! so pulling things apart for you isnt like it is for the rest of us with EFI. wire harnesses, the upper intake and its million vacuum lines and everything else. good move converting to carb!
 
do a compression check (if you can) on all cylinders too, if one (or more) are severely low that could be a dead giveaway to a blown headgasket (and whereabouts it blew!)

EDIT--oh and another thing: FINE, so he doesnt like you going fast by his house? (though i believe you, that you arent in fact doing that) fine. stop, put er in 1st, and go by at 15 mph, and 3000 rpm. see how he likes that. :beatyoass:  (i dont know what exhaust you have but im assuming you dont have something whisper-quiet)

Granted it only went about 25 feet, but why. I had it nose pointed twards the street. They pulled it through the gravel then onto the street by teh swaybar. Then as I came out they were just lifting the front end. They could have knocked on the door adn asked me to move it. Or even reached in and truned the keys ( left them in it on accident) and popped in into netural.

As for the intake, I'll look. Will it be oddious it's leaking? If not what to I look for. I really don't think I can do a compression check as I don't have the tools and can't afford it right now. I'm baking on it's the intake gaskets though. I did them and thats what I played with so there is a good chance thats whats wrong with it.

if the gasket isnt sealing up the coolant passages in the intake/heads well, it could leak into the lifter valley, and there you go, its right in your oil.
 
and, once this is all taken care of, buy enough oil for 2 changes. drain it all, put new stuff in, start it up (if you can get it running) and let it run enough to warm up so now the oil will be nice and thin. then drain again, and put the second batch of new stuff in, and you oughta be good. if you want to be sure you coulddo a third round. motor oil isnt too expensive and it might be worth it to make sure you dont cook your engine!
 
but what you gotta keep in mind is once theres not too much concentration of coolant, when the engine is good and hot it will all evaporate and fly up out of your crankcase vents and out of the oil. its a good system.

I suggested the whole intake gasket theory to him because it happened to me with my old Grand Marquis.  The car had never done it before and all of a sudden it starts right after he changed the intake.

Mikey, make sure to put some RTV around the water ports on the intake and head .

winter just friggin sucks, huh? im sure you would have much more done, as would i, if it was spring right now.
 
im about ready for spring. we've had a couple decent snowstorms recently (FINALLY) so now my mindset is "okay im satisfied, look at the pretty snow, ok now i want it gone and 75 degrees outside. :D

New things. Went to time it and it wasn't even on the scale. the enine idles REALLY slow. you rev it up it starts to miss like crazy. I think that the timing is still WAY!! off. Apart from RE-pulling the valve cover( which I did last time), how do you know it's a TDC compression before this  me off even worse. I'm at a loss of words now. The good news is that there is another fox in the family soon;)

Why are you letting it run (to check timing) while it has an issue with antifreeze in the oil?

Yank that intake off and get it sealed up.  Make sure the sealing surfaces are PERFECTLY clean.  Use a QUALITY gasket set like Fel-Pro, the one with the tabs that hang over the edge of the engine block instead of just laying on the top.  Use RTV sealant around the coolant passages.  Don't use TOO MUCH goop or the gaskets will slide around and won't seal properly.  Put a dab on the intake bolts too.

I re-drained the oil and put new in ( walmart cheap stuff but oil) and haven't found any more in it yet. I think there was just some left oover from when I pulled the intake and spilt some in the lifter vally. I'll go ahead and tear it down and re-do everything tomorow and see where that gets me. Re do teh timing once and for sure too while I'm threre.

Ok, yesterday it was 63* outside and I kicked ass on the bird. Marked the dizzy in place as it was dialed in for 10*btdc, removed it and the intake, did all new gaskets then re-assembled the right way. New carb gaskets and a new solonid as I was there. Went to turn the key, starter is dead. I'm waiting on getting a new one and hopefuly I can start the  thing. Now it *should* only be carb tuning and I can drive her again. Unless I missed anything or anyone has ideas to keep me busy, then I'm about done. Also removed the fan and fan shroud as I found 2 E-fans that should work on the car. OUt of a Saab ??? but if you stagger them they both fit perfect. I'll wire to a dash switch so I can turn on and off, or maybe a key on hot, haven decided yet. Also got a set of generic duals to go on it whenI get an H pipe. Should be a fun few weeks comin up.


Forgot to add, before I re-did the intake, at all RPM's thecarb would "pop". Not so sure as it was not a back fire but a pop. I'm assuming it's bacause the intake gaskets didn't seal and there was NO rear seal ( forgot that little detail) but what else could it be. I know I have to tune it from scratch but any idea's here. I know there are a few carb guys here that can try to help if you please

It was a beautiful day...and would have been the perfect opportunity for you to get that 'Bird of yours up in the air and take photos of this "mysterious" rear end you keep talking about...
