White snowflakes? August 18, 2006, 09:15:01 PM While scrubbing 19 year old Turbocoupe dirt & grease off myself in the bathtub today (after stripping the front spindles, springs, brakes, swaybar etc from the parts car) I was thinking about how nice it'll be to finally get all that stuff on the '88, and my thoughts turned to wheels. I had originally planned on doing the same patented "Thundercat Wheel Restoration" that I did to the ten-holesto them, and eventually started thinking about polishing them, but today I started wondering how they'd look painted white. Not a spray-bomb job, of course, but a base/clear that will match the eventual paint job on the car. I'm thinking it'll look great - I've always liked white wheels on a white car, and it will be a decidedly retro 80's look on a decidedly retro-80's car, which is exactly what I'm shooting for. I plan on painting the recesses in the wheels black to keep the brake dust ugliness down.So... Anyone do white snowflakes, and if so, got any pics? :D Quote Selected
White snowflakes? Reply #1 – August 18, 2006, 09:18:29 PM Now that you mention is I think white snowflakes would look killer an my Fila. It had white 8 holed from the factory so I think it would match the look. Quote Selected
White snowflakes? Reply #2 – August 18, 2006, 11:53:01 PM I must say I was starting to worry there. This part saved meQuote I plan on painting the recesses in the wheels black to keep the brake dust ugliness down.I too really love the white wheels on white cars. Afterall that's the way mine are. Bare turbines just don't do it on a white car and the snowflakes have almost the same effect. But I hate I hate I hate trying to keep them clean.I think it would look awesome but I'm not so sure about the black recesses. I guess I'd have to see a mock up of it.Honestly, I think if you put generous amounts of clear on them, the brake dust will blow off when you hit it with the hose or light sponging. When I redid mine, they looked great all the time and were fairly easy to clean but now (2 1/2 years later) the clear has started wearing off, it hasn't been so easy.
