Grinding from standstill July 29, 2006, 12:22:39 AM Today I got backed and figured the thunderchicken needed all the mud sprayed off, and I figured while I was at it, I would replace the TPS and see if that helped my idle. Done, fixed, hopefully it doesn't do it again. Now, I have this problem where if I give it gas, the tranny/engine/something not inside the car, grinds from a standstill.I had this problem a while back, and my tranny was getting tired, so I had the tranny rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. I'm still having this problem, and I'd kinda like to correct everything thats wrong with the car so it becomes something I'm proud to drive. All I have left to fix is rust, console, power window, power lock, seats, carpet, headliner, paint, and hopefully wheels/lowering. Any help is appreciated. Going to catjam breathed some life back into me and I'd like to fix this car back up. Quote Selected
Grinding from standstill Reply #1 – July 29, 2006, 12:33:42 AM Hrm... it's not normal for anything in the tranny to grind. I've honestly never heard of an automaitc trans grinding. The only time I heard that sound was when my rear differential was toast. Quote Selected
Grinding from standstill Reply #2 – July 29, 2006, 12:36:05 AM My differential could be toast now that I think about it. I make a hard right at a decent speed and I hear a loud clicking almost popping sound. Maybe I should just have someone get under the car and listen. All they'd have to do is move out of the way when the car takes off. Quote Selected
Grinding from standstill Reply #3 – July 29, 2006, 12:49:19 AM I dunno... my car made a few loud bangs over the course of two days... then one morning a really loud bang. After that (for about 5 miles) it made a super-loud howling sound. And then it was dead. Quote Selected
Grinding from standstill Reply #4 – July 29, 2006, 01:02:18 AM Somehow, I kinda hope that happens to this one, kinda not. All i know is that I'd love to swap a new motor in it (5.0/5., but I don't have any of the parts for it and I can't get em around here. Hell, it was like pulling teeth just to get a decent console and it's still a broken one. Quote Selected
