CFI to Carb?

Does any one know if I can put a Motocraft 2 barrel card on my CFI manifild? A freind told me I could and it would be faster and way simpler then re-wiring the whole car.

May be a little more work but wouldn't it be esier to conver to tune port style intake.

You could grap everything you need from a Mustang.

Becuase I have access to a carb and in a pintch for money. Car  doesn't have to run soon but I'm looking for options. I know I can do an EFI swap but I was asking if anyone knows is it will bolt up? I was thinking Motocraft 2 barrel, fuel pressure regulater and assorted new fuel lines is cheeper for the moment than a full EFI swap from a stang or the Vic'?

Wouldn't you have to switch over your fuel pump aswell? and funk with a shiznitload of other stuff?

It should bolt up, but its not that simple. You might need to tweak how the throttle cable, cruise control cable, and kickdown rod are routed. You will need a new distributor and you will not be able to use your EEC-IV ignition system. You will need to get a Duraspark 2 ignition system. I *think* you have two fuel pumps, a high pressure in line, and a low pressure in the tank. You'll need to remove the high pressure pump and use the low pressure one. Or you could change to a mechanical fuel pump but that would require changing the timing chain cover to an older style. When I changed mine I went with the mechanical fuel pump, just seemed easier for any mods in the long run. I have since changed from the Motorcraft 2 barrel to a Edelbrock 4 barrel. I still have the 2 barrel and intake.

When I took my '84 (And my '85 I'm pretty sure) apart, there was already the eccentric boss for the mechanical fuel pump on the end of the cam.  However, the hole was sealed shut on the timing cover.  So that would either have to be drilled out, or the whole timing cover replaced with one with an opening.  So yeah, if you go the mechanical route, you at least have to modify the cover.

My ex's old '83 5.0 Tbird was swapped to carb (or mostly) when we picked it up way back when.  It's been a while.  Anyway.

The 2bbl carb bolted to the intake, so drama there save for buttoning up a few extra vac fittings etc.  This guy had left the intank pump in, but there were new lines to the block and just a std block-mounted fuel pump was installed.  Original ignition consisted of a points dist (talk about a GIANT leap backwards). All the EEC harness was gone.
I wound up digging up a Duraspark dist and ignition box of another early 80's 5.0 and got rid of the points dist quickly.
I don't remember enough about the kick-down rod was hooked up, but I don't think there was alot of drama with that (I think the carb that was used was originally from an auto car)

I may be possible to just use the low pressure intank electric pump abd perhaps an adjustable regulator.  On my old carb turbo Pace Car that's how it was set up.  Didn't appear to have any problems.

Also if you dont mind using GM parts I can dig up that article on how to use the HEI module with the duraspark dist.
