Another sign of the apocalypse:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4104731.stm

(probably a little too long to quote all of it here)

Well, being that I sell stuff from online games for actual dollars, (mostly in-game currency, like 1 million credits for $7-10.. it pays for monthly fees and some beer money) I can probably fathom what this guy has done more than most people.. but the average Net user, even the average online game player, is going to see this and think it's the height of craziness. (and they'd probably be right)

All I can say is, I wish I had 26 grand to just throw around like that. :shoothead

There are some big money-making operations in these games. One guy I encountered this month has 9 employees and makes enough money to advertise in gaming magazines. (which must piss off the game makers, considering it's technically against most games' rules to sell in-game stuff for real money.. Entropia there is an exception) I've heard of one disabled woman who had 6 PCs "farming" stuff to sell in Ever (Everquest). I've had as many as 8 accounts going in one game to sell stuff.. but I get burned out too easily, so I've not yet made it as far as some of these people.

People are gonna see "26 grand" and "virtual world" and think that this guy has flipped his lid.. but from the sounds of that article, he's probably going to use it to make the money back and then some. I had no idea PE had that big of a user base.. I tried it for a couple days around January and it seemed deserted.
