1984 Thunderbird FILA Reply #30 – June 29, 2006, 11:47:53 AM Your Fila has the standard 5.0 as none of the tbirds or cougars got an HO. About that TC, does it run? If so how much would he want for the complete engine, engine harness, and ECU? Quote Selected
1984 Thunderbird FILA Reply #31 – June 29, 2006, 11:53:36 AM That I'll ask about the 2.3 Turbo for you. I think he wants some parts off of it though. I'll see what I can do. Quote Selected

1984 Thunderbird FILA Reply #35 – June 29, 2006, 03:17:39 PM A couple of things:1) The 87-88 door will fit your car but it'll look stupid. The "belt line" of the car is different, but more importantly, the window is completely different. 87-88 models have flush mounted side glass, which will look wrong with your "recessed" quarter window. You would be far better off finding a correct door (any 83-86 T-Bird/Cougar). If you think installing a non-stock induction system on your car will hurt its value, just wait 'til you see what having the wrong door will do to it :hick:Second, either reverting to carb or upgrading to SEFI would both benefit your car. Reverting to carb would open up all kinds of performance upgrade paths, and is not a difficult thing to do. To do it easily you could get a fuel tank sending unit from a carbureted car (83 V6 models, or 83-86 Canadian V6 models), an aftermarket low pressure inline pump, a carb distributor & Duraspark box, and of course, the carb. It would involve a bit of work, but so will trying to make your existing hacked up harness work.SEFI of course would require an SEFI harness, computer, fuel pump, and induction hardware, but it would give you better drivability than a carb, and would be more likely to be emissions legal.Remember, these cars were built during a dark period of automotive history, when only supercars exeeded 300 horsepower and most regular cars barely broke a hundred. While people may look back fondly on the styling of these cars, nobody will miss their performance, so I think you'll be safe squeezing some HP out of the car without hurting its value. As long as you don't do anything that is permanent (can't be returned to stock) the value won't be hurt. Quote Selected
1984 Thunderbird FILA Reply #36 – June 29, 2006, 03:37:12 PM i would say go to carb. but i dont know it sounds easier and im sure folk round hear will help you get it done by answering any question you have that they know. and it is cheaper to tune if you know what your doing. it would be cheap if you could find a manifold and carb on ebay or craigslist and the other parts you need but i dont know just what i think. the Sleeper guy might be able to tell you the way to do it as far a the computer bypass and stuff Quote Selected
1984 Thunderbird FILA Reply #37 – June 30, 2006, 03:36:15 AM I was thinking of just putting in a Police Package motor out of my vic and putting a 351 crate in that. I know it runs, I know what kind of pawer it makes. It's EFI but does anyone think it would be worth it in the long run. I don't plan on selling it anytime soon but someday I might. Also I just brought her home today. She ( me girlfreind named her Jamie) was at my freinds and I was working on her there. Quote Selected
