I think there was a TC motor in 3Fast 3Furious... June 23, 2006, 01:58:15 AM I just saw Tokyo Drift (It was OK, good driving scenes and a bad-ass Monte Carlo) but I SWEAR there was a TC motor in it. Towards the end of the movie they swap a RB26TT (straight-6 turbo Nissan Skyline motor) into a 67 Mustang. Well, when they show the engine going in, the turbo was on the passenger side. (The turbo(s) on Nissan motors are all on the driver's side) And I'll be ed if it wasn't a T3 with the bolt-on inlet removed. Now I'll have to buy it on DVD to pause it right there to see if it is indeed a 2.3T. Anybody else catch that? Quote Selected

Reply #1 – June 23, 2006, 06:42:00 AM In the latest issue of Hot Rod magazine, they have a section about it, but no mention of the T3 turbo mix-up....Course..they ARE biased towards GM Seriously, I've no ideas...keep us informed as to what comes of this.. I'll see the movie but only retal, they are too bad to go see in theater. Quote Selected

I think there was a TC motor in 3Fast 3Furious... Reply #4 – June 23, 2006, 01:44:25 PM They are extremely cheesy, but all 3 get one thing right. The American Muscle car always wins. The Mustang didn't have an engine (the kid's dad was restoring it) and the Nissan was smashed up early in the movie, so the cops didn't take it when they seized all the other cars. Funny thing is, all the Rustangs used for drifting scenes have a 430ci Windsor! :hick: The movie is worth it for the opening scenes with a really bad-ass Monte Carlo (total NASCAR beater vibe with a Bill Mitchell HARDCORE 632 BBC in it, Grrr!). I just can't stop thinking about that engine shot. I went and looked at all the car mags and all the websites that had a feature on the cars and I can't find the scene where the engine is on a cherry picker going into the Stang. Quote Selected

I think there was a TC motor in 3Fast 3Furious... Reply #6 – June 24, 2006, 09:21:13 AM i knew i saw a fastback mustang in the previews. my first thought was, great, another ricer movie where they pound another rare classic muscle car. i haven't seen the movie yet, but probably will when it comes out on dvd. i've got the other 2. no, they're not oscar-winning level movies, but i have a hard time passing up any car movies. i hated that in the first movie they smash a charger, and in the second movie they at least pretended to smash a yenko camaro and a hemi cuda (or was it a challenger). now the third movie picks on my favorite cars, '67/'70 mustangs. that would be a wild cross-up, a skyline turbo in a '67 stang. i can't imagine in real life what it would take to make that work. besides, that mixes 2 very different automotive tastes that would probably never have anything to do with each other. the nissan guys would consider that a waste, and the stang guys would say "nissan what?". just nobody tell me that the mustang gets trashed beyond recognition or i'll never get the movie! gone in 60 seconds was bad enough!fordman3 Quote Selected
I think there was a TC motor in 3Fast 3Furious... Reply #7 – June 24, 2006, 09:37:49 AM oh, by the way, what magazines covered the cars used in the movie? i'd like to go pick them up.i had another thought. do you know what else these type of movies are good for? they drive the pricetag of whatever car is featured in them through the already-skyhigh friggin' roof, while i'm sitting here hoping to one day be able to afford one again (i miss my '69 mach 1). between this movie and gone in 60 seconds, i'll never be able to touch a '67/'68 fastback. and it's not like they're plentiful, so that a movie studio can use up 20 or 30 of them to shoot a movie. how many chargers had to die to make dukes of hazzard for 7 or 8 years? don't get me wrong, i loved the show when i was young and i still love the reruns, but now how many chargers do you see now? i think the recent movie used 20+ cars, of which only a few were driveable when the movie was done. sorry to get on the soapbox. it's a mixed blessing, getting to see your favorite classic cars in a movie, but then knowing that they had to destroy however many of them for the sake of our entertainment. how can you win?fordman3 Quote Selected
I think there was a TC motor in 3Fast 3Furious... Reply #8 – June 24, 2006, 12:04:51 PM Hot Rod's July Issue had the 3F3F cars. You know, funny thing, they used 15 67 Stangs in Gone, and totaled 4 IIRC, the Dukes used 20 various 68-70 Chargers but only totaled completely trashed rustbuckets (thank God!) but 2F2F was actually the best! The "crashed" Challenger and Camaro were both fiberglass replicas!! According to the Hot Rod article, some of the Mustangs were leftovers from Gone and the bad guy car in Dukes and they acually did put a Skyline motor into one and it actually works. Go watch Terminator 4, they ALMOST total a Red TC about 6 times in the RV chase! Quote Selected

I think there was a TC motor in 3Fast 3Furious... Reply #10 – June 27, 2006, 10:53:58 AM I thought this one was the best of the 3, but I did think it was a bit odd dropping that motor into a classic stang. But yea, this one didn't contain as many cheesy elements as the first two, like Paul Walker's fake homie accent. And plus, any time you add Brad from Home Improvement to a movie, its an instant cinematic masterpiece. Quote Selected
