Great Father's Day!

hey all,
well, my casualness finally caught up with me.  this weekend we went to visit my in-laws in tennessee in my '98 f150.  i always park by the curb right next to their house and have never had a reason to be concerned.  it's a very nice neighborhood.  i had taken the kids to see 'cars' (which i highly recommend, even though i can't recall a single ford character).  we got back about 11:30 from the late show and i parked the truck where i always do.  and, boneheaded me, i apparently left the keys in the truck and the doors open.  well, guess what i found sunday morning.  or should i say, what i didn't find.  no, the truck wasn't stolen, but they sure did a number inside.  my dash was taken apart and my kenwood mp3 satellite receiver was gone, along with another pioneer cd deck that was hiding down in the center console.  like i said, not only were the keys left in the truck, they were actually in the ignition when i looked in.  the truck's a 5-speed, so it's got the little button behind the ignition switch you have to push to turn the key off and take it out, and they didn't even know how to do that.  they were nice enough to leave all my cd's, and even to power up the unit to eject the cd that was still in it.  how nice.  they cut most of the wires that didn't have m/f connectors, even the expensive cable that goes to the actual satellite tuner hiding in the console.  they left my checkbook and several old credit cards (they didn't know they were no good).  i guess what i should be most thankful for is that they didn't take the whole truck.  i've only got liability.  the more i think about it, the only thing that probably kept them from stealing it was the fact that it is a manual shift and they probably couldn't drive it.  they did find a set of ford keys in my truck (from my '83 cougar), and apparently tried to use them on my mother-in-law's taurus.  when they didn't work, they threw them on the ground.  they left an umbrella in the truck, and the cop took it to check for prints.  i know i'll never see my stuff again, but i do get some satisfaction in knowing that the kenwood will not power back up without the security code.  later that evening we had a 6-hour trip back home without any tunes.  i've got an old sony cassette deck (cassette?) i'm gonna put in til i replace the kenwood just for a radio and a clock.  i know other people have had worse losses than i did, but it's my first and it really just bummed me out, and made for a pretty lousy father's day.  feel free to give some consolation or share a similar story.  thanks for letting me unload.

p.s. the shift keys still just barely work on this keyboard.

That sucks man, sorry to hear it.
Been there done that, have now added a ton of security features to my car just so it won't happen again.
The only thing to remember is always take your faceplate.
I took my cd and dvd player faces the night my car was broken into and they did not touch them but instead stole my amps and ripped my tv off of my roof.
I hate thieves!!!!!!!

Try an Eclipse headunit/no detachable faceplate. Sure ESN prevents it from working, but it doesn't stop thieves from prying the locks out of your door to get to it. Still haven't gotten that nasty hole fixed.

i just you off inside somuch that you want to explode! and is just anther reason insurance is a scam b/c if you make a claim it goes up and if you make too many claims your droped so the whole reason you have it is just in case and when the case come you dont  want to use it for the fear something bigger will happen. my Dad bought my mom a nice kenwood head uniy with detachable face and if you didnt take it off it fliped  backward so the whole dash was  black. now this was about 3 or four years ago and i did nt have my car and one of our vans was getting worked on so  our new Chevy Express with the strero was backed into thedrive way and was right next to the door. my dad got it for Christmas and she only had it for abou12 days when she when out to get me from school the dash trim was hanging from the steering wheel. Now  nothing was broke and they knew what they were doing b/c you have to take a piece off for under the sterring wheel to get the trim to come off and nothing was broke. i must say it was a clean professinal job and that is what scared us. they were quiet and quick b/c my dog didnt bark and we bought it from Ultimate Electronics were the guys that were installing it asked my dad if his adress was correct mutiple times. a little strange? i would say yes . verified address + professinal and clean rip off = inside job. i think so. Talk about the 12 days of Christmas.  now if it was my car i would be after blood
