'85 Amp and Battery Hook-Up

Wondering what some of you guys (and gals :) ) have done with your cars? I was looking at hooking up my amp to the battery but I don't see an easy way to go through the firewall

. Any suggestions and/or photos would be appreciated. I really don't want to put a battery in the trunk if I don't have to. Thanks!

If you don't plan on (or already have) a 5-speed then you can use the hole where the clutch cable is supposed to go through. It's below and to the side of the brake booster. There's a plug in the hold as it is right now, replace it with a grommet and you're all set. You may also be able to squeeze around where the heater core hoses go through the firewall.

I ran my power wire through a gap between the passenger fender and firewall then through a grommet in the door frame (for the power windows

) then under the carpet on the passenger side along with the rest of the cars wiring straight to the trunk, there is a plastic channel under the carpet to keep the wires from moving around or getting pinched.

I ran mine through a grommet I found by the A/C accumulator. Someday I hope to add a 5-speed, so I didn't want to use the clutch hole:

This hole comes into the car behind the heater box, but if you wiggle it around you can get it down between the ehater box and the firewall

i poked a hole trough the grommet in the fire wall below the master cylender ran it behing all the vaccume hoses around the strut tower and to the battery

That's exactly where I ran mine through.

I guess the clutch cable hole isn't the best idea. It's just what the prev. owner did with my car. When I put the amp in my LTD I snaked it around the heater box.

You can also Drill a speprate hole in the firewall to run the calble. Thats what I did. You have to be extreemly careful not to hit ANY Wiring when drilling though. I ran mine past the MC and drilled a hole right behind the middle of the dash. snaked though behind the radio, under the center console, under the carpet in back, past the seat and right into the trunk. Be sure to scout out how you want to run the cable before drilling. Make sure you move all the wiring out of the way. Be sure to Fuse both ends of the cable. Close to the battery, and near the Amp on the other end. The fuse twards the battery should be twice the power handling of the fuse in the back.....for example, if you have a 40 in the trunk, you should have and 80 under the hood. They might save your car from burning up if something goes wrong. Also, you might want to invest in some high quality battery terminals. I Use Stinger Platinum series connectors, with holes for connecting two 8 guage, two 4 guage, and one 0 guage wires. makes hook up a lot more conveniant. just some food for thought.
