Apple starting off on the wrong foot

I can't believe I could be more frustrated with another software company than Microsoft. But I am.

I purchased my first Apple product yesterday. An Ipod Nano. It's a dud.

Yes, I followed all instructions, including the first message I got from my Ipod, which was to visit the support page on Apple.com. After Restoring, Restarting, Updating, Reseting, and every other concievable troubleshooting task, I'm left with nothing. Day one, and they're asking me to send it in for repair.

****ING BULLshiznit!

I think I'll be taking it back and getting something else that doesn't make me want to kill people.

There are a lot of iPod failures...a LOT. I've used nothing but Apple products for 20 years and by far, the iPods are the most pr0ne-failure Apple products. The nanos seem to be the worst. I had a hard drive die on my first 20GB 2G iPod. My current 3G 40GB model has a battery that won't last beyond a few hours.

However...Applecare is awesome, and especially so with the iPod. They have it down to a science. And if it helps, Alex's brother just went through this with his nano, and things got fixed really quickly. This is all small consolation for you now, I'm sure, but in most cases Apple takes very good care of people. Let's hope that's the case with you as well.

Actually Eric, He didn't get it fixed.. they sent him a replacement.. and all it was is a simple broken switch.. but since my brother didn't take care of his Nano, and it was scrached up beyond recognition, Apple just went ahead and sent him a brand new one. all in a matter of a couple of days. And mind you.. this is service to Canada too so you'll be fine. I"ve had absolutely no problems wiht my Nano, I take care of it.. it works well battery lasts pretty long.. It's great.

Well, I'm not going to give Applecare a chance to show their worth. I'm bringing it back to Best Buy tonight (I only got it yesterday) for a replacement. Yes, I'll get another Ipod. But if that one turns out to be a dud too, man, that's too many omens. Back to Samsung, who hasn't even blipped at me yet, in two years.

And Baxo, at this rate, I just got a new toy. I shouldn't have to wait a 'relatively quick' couple of days to play with it. I could see if this were a few weeks into use, but right now, I feel like I just bought a melted popsicle.

I actually bought a 20 GIG Rio Karma..... Its got some awesome features, and i think I paid a hair over 140 shipped.  Look on e-bay, they are an awesome player, and very reliable/durable.  Mine survived iraq just fine, while Ipods were dropping like flies.

By all means. :D

Another buttstuffogy (that shows just how unacceptable this should be): Imagine signing the lease on a 2006 Porsche Cayman, and immediately being asked to help push it into the shop out back for an engine R & R. (I think the battery is hooped, since I got it to work only when it's plugged into the USB, and when I unplug it, a battery icon shows up with the exclamation mark triangular sign in front) "You can pick it up in a few days." :)

If they held came with more than a 35MB card, I'd get a PSP instead.

I got it replaced......... with a 2Gig. It works fine, for now. I did pay for the two year free replacement plan from Best Buy, because from what people have been telling me, these batteries go bunk all the time.

Man, those 2 years through best buy suck, most of the time there is already a warrenty through the manufactorer, and they are the ones that usally fix it. Best buy used to piss me off so bad at my last job.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Manufacturer warranty is only one year, and in order to get anything fixed you have to send it off to Apple, at your cost. Best Buy's 2 year is a replacement warranty. "It's broken?" "yup" "ok, go get a new one and we'll exchange it."

Pretty much what happened yesterday, but for 24 months, rather than 30 days.
