96 cougar from 3.8L to 4.6L

So, I think w/ the problems around the 5.0L conversion (OBD2 to OBD1) I have pretty much decided to shift my project towards the the 4.6 since the 96 and 97 came w/ these.
My question to everyone is what all would be involved in going from the 6 to the 8?
Is it worth it? I could buy a used 97 w/ 4.6 for about $5,000 - $7,000.
I'd feel it in my walk, LOL.
But it may prove simpler than the conversion if I should run into major problems like I did w/ the 5.0 mod.
Any ideas guys?

I would suggest you look for a '96 or a '97 with the 4.6 already in it. I'm sure it would be a BIG task to swap the engines.

On a related note, my '96 may be up for sale within the next few weeks. :D

Is this a sales pitch, HAHA
Just kidding, but yeah I agree the fact that they are not too old just yet(though it has been difficult so far to find a decent one) does make it a much more reasonable concept.
Although, I don't think I could justify buying one in good condition(like yours) it would take all thefun out of it.

Want me to beat the hell out of it, then sell it to you?
:D

Try looking over on TCCoA if you're really looking for a 4.6 car. You might find just what you're looking for.

hmm, I think the 5.0 would be more fun, but with some hop ups, I am sure the 4.6 would pull real good.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I'm currently considering just stroking out the 3.8 and beefing it up, then slap a supercharger and intercooler into it.
Think I could pull 400rwhp?

not without alot of money. It would be cheapest to get a good super coupe engine, and donor car.

Honestly, a stock 5.0 of those years puts out just slightly less power. With a couple hundred bucks it would kill a v-6, even with a super. Honestly, I am gonna have to say there is alot of cost with building a v-6 right.

However, the v-6 is already there. The super coupes us a completely diffrent block that is alot stronger.
