What holds in the Rear Window? March 26, 2006, 03:27:35 PM The plastic trim on the rear windshield of my car is broken and the metal/plastic trim underneath it is starting to brake now too. well as i was driving today it started squeaking and you can see it moving. Can you still find the pieces that go around the window anywhere? I hope this makes sense Thanks Quote Selected
What holds in the Rear Window? Reply #1 – March 27, 2006, 12:44:11 AM Plastic stuff around the rear window? It should be metal trim around the window. It should be held on by clips. They make a tool for them but I got them loose with the cafeful use of a flat head screwdriver. I should just push back into place might need to use a rubbedr mallet. I'm not shure if it is still avail. I know the clips that hold the trim on break easy but they are still avil. Ifound them in the help section. MotorMite , or BallKamp. Red package that says help. What holds in the Rear Window? Reply #2 – March 27, 2006, 09:58:21 AM That trim ain't what holds the window in, though - the window is held in with an adhesive just like the windshield. Th adhesive seems to dry out or something and the window becomes loose. Mine is the same way (you can hear it rattle) and will be fixed when the car is painted, coming up soon Quote Selected
What holds in the Rear Window? Reply #3 – March 27, 2006, 05:41:09 PM Well on my 88 sport coupe it has/had black plastic trim that covers about a 1/4" of the window and the plastic covered metal trim that has a groove the plastic trim snaps into and covers the gap to the body of the car. At least thats what it looks like to me. I guess i will just rip off the trim and glue it down with windshield adhesive Quote Selected

The window is held in by the adhesive, just like the windshield. To do it properly you'll need to do more than remove the trim and glue the window down - you'll acttually have to remove the window, clean off the old adhesive (both on the window and the car body) and then use new glue. If you try a band-aid approach it will leak.BTW, if yours is loose it's probably leaking now. Check the rear edge of the headliner for wet spots, stains, or mould, and check the spare tire well - it's likely full of water. There's a plug in the bottom of it you can pull out to drain it if it is... Quote Selected

The rear window is held down buy glue Just like thunder chicken has pointed out. As far as removing the trim I just used a flat blade just be careful. Most of my clips broke when tring to install the trim. Quote Selected
