Got the right one

Hi all,
I have an 86 with a 3.8 CFI and I just recently purchased a 85 Marquis that has a 5.0 EFI is this swap going to be difficult? It as well has an AOD tranny will the 5.0 mount correctly? Will the tranny and drive train  install right in my Cougar and last Q here, will i need to buy a new brain?

I would appreciate any help or advice that you all can give me..

Do you mean the Cougar has the AOD or the Marquis?  And by brain do you mean computer?  Just clarify these things so that the guys can help you out a bit better.  The simplicity of the swap depends on your mechanical aptitude.  People have done it in as little as 2-3 days but that's with multiple workers, and working constatnly.

Marquis has the stuff

Hey thanks for answering,
Sorry i wasn't more specific. The Marquis has both the 5.0 and the AOD, and yes I meant the computer. The Cougar currently has a 3.8 w/ a C3 or C5 the tranny shop was not sure which one is that weird or what? Anyways I am prity good with electrical but sure no expert.

I know this is going to be quite the undertaking and I would like to have the heads up on the process or at least a great lot of advice from ones who know what is what.

Thanks

Well that means that the engine and tranny will bolt right into the car.

If its an 86 you will have a fun time getting motor mount plates.

The tailshaft on that tranny may be longer than what would have come in the car.

You could use the computer out of the gran marquis but you will have to find a v8 harness for an 86.  Any other year will require modifacation.

I wasn't aware that EFI went into the big body cars in '85.....thought those were the ol' CFI.  Was this motor swapped into the GranMarq?  Also if he's gonna use the computer that is already working with the motor then why not use that harness?

Marq harness's are huge!  And I think they route things all backwards than are cars. like the VSS and neutral/reverse wires run up to the engine harness then into the car.  Instead of through the floor pan like our cars.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
