Aftermarket Header Question

Hey guys,

I got a question for ya.  Whenever I finally get around to dropping the new 5.0 HO into my car, I want to put new headers on it.  Right now on my 5.0 SO I'm running stock GT headers and they are ok, but not what I'm shooting for (they are tuned and they also sound like air whizzing around).  What I'd like to do is get a set of after marked ones.  So heres where my questions come in.  I'm going to be replacing the motor mounts when the engine comes in, and if all possible I'd like not to have to cut anything off of them to get the headers to fit.  Is that possible?  If so, what brand/style would I need?  Also, about how much HP does an aftermarket free up as opposed to the stock headers?

Thanks a ton,
Matt

I'm not sure than you can fit any aftermarket ones around the column shifter linkage, if you have that, that is.

Hooker makes a set that clears the linkage.  The first 2 sets under the chart for 79-93 are a good fit.  Keep in mind these are labelled full length. they are really more of a 3/4 especially the first one.  Great on the street, but custom pipes from there on back are involved.

Well I don't have to worry about the problem of a column shifter myself. ;)  I'm more concerned with ones that I won't have to trim the new motor mounts, and maybe even a direct swap in size from the GT ones.  I have a custom dual exhaust setup and I'm not looking to have any of it redone, just a quick change if at all possible.

Thanks

This conversation got me thinking about what I wanted for my setup. I've got the column shifter myself and am curious as to whether or not the headers I chose from Dynomax would fit my 5.0 tbird?
