First cars.. Reply #33 – March 12, 2006, 12:00:51 AM First car ever was a 1973 Super Beetle that I bought for $400 from my cousin's boyfriend when I was only 12 years old. Most of the engine was missing but the heads, block, and generator were in the trunk. I never got it running but I definitely learned a lot. I held onto the parts for years for sentimental reasons (the cousin died about a month after I bought it) but last year I finally dragged it to the sper. First running car was a '81 (or so) Toyota Corolla wagon. RWD, 5 speed, and 3TC engine (I think) and 230K+ that my dad bought for $750 when I was 14. I didn’t learn anything productive except how to drive a stick pretty well and how to off-road in Alabama red mud. I started getting trouble in middle school and my dad sold it REAL quick - so I learned that lesson fast!Neither of the pictures are of the actual cars - but the Bug is my 2nd 73 Super beetle that I still have now (both were originally Sumatra green) and the Corrolla is the closest thing I could find on ebay.
