5.4 February 15, 2006, 12:53:05 PM I searched and didn't see any answers or similar question, but has anyone put the 5.4 4V into the Fox Bird/Cat yet? Seems like the 4.6 4V has been a few times....Thanks guys Quote Selected
5.4 Reply #1 – February 15, 2006, 01:05:00 PM I know MM&FF did a supertcharged 5.4 2-valve from a Lightning, and I know it was enormous (even with a 4" cowl hood they had to cut a hole) Quote Selected
5.4 Reply #2 – February 15, 2006, 01:06:04 PM In one of the 5.0 mustang mags they are always working on a four-eyed fox stang' with a 5.4 triton in it. The upper intake sticks partially out of the 6 inch cowel hood, and it runs in the 10s... Quote Selected

It was a lightning 5.4? and only a 4" cowl? it seemed bigger to me...All I remember is that It looked really big and the motor made 460's look small. Quote Selected
5.4 Reply #4 – February 15, 2006, 02:06:24 PM Well they had issues with the height of the supercharger on that car, and the extreme front weight bias caused by the engine also. The 5.4 four valve is enormous...I think I'd rather fit a big block into the engine bay than that thing. Quote Selected
5.4 Reply #5 – February 15, 2006, 02:50:02 PM the 5.4 is much taller than the 4.6. even the 4.6 with a PD blower requires a cowl hood. im not even sure yet if the NA 4.6 is gonna fit under the stock hood. the 5.4 is sweet and all but on some level ya gotta ask yourself when is enough enough. on o3 cobra engine puts down 390 HP and are so responsive to small mods that 1500 or less can get you into the 500 HP range. hell, even the 4.6 dohc ive got will double the HP the car has now... the 5.4 has been dumped into fox mustangs many times so im sure it will fit but your either gonna have too cut the hood for the intake like they did in MMFF or get a pretty serious cowl... 5.4 Reply #6 – February 15, 2006, 03:13:25 PM I may be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that the 5.4 was wider than some of the big blocks...like 428 etc Quote Selected
5.4 Reply #7 – February 15, 2006, 03:16:19 PM well the 4.6 is close in width...about 30-31" and they are about 30" tall from the bottom of the oil pan. a 302 is something like19" wideand 21" tall going by the frpp catalog. looks like they dont include te intake on the 302 though. my intake sits about 6" above the valve covers... i `think` the lightning/triton engines are physically taller than the navigator 5.4 dohc moduler... the only info i have on the 5.4 dohc into a fox is a few pics : Quote Selected
