Why can't I find touch-up paint for my car?

Actually, I want a can of spray paint that matches my car...

Anyway, when I go to the auto parts store, I can never find a shade that is exactly right. I found a can of Duplicolor "import" color a couple years ago that was dead on, but it's almost gone. I have the cap from the can so I've been using that to try to match up paint, but I'm not having much luck. There's a whole bunch of dark red metallic colors that are CLOSE but not quite the right shade. Someone told me my car's color is Bright Red Pearl Metallic, is that right? Man, it's so close to Electric Currant Red but just not quite. I was at Advance today comparing all the different shades they had and none were quite right.

Suggestions?

Dealership?  Unless you had it repainted.

Your car is Medium Red Clearcoat Metallic, like Layla. The problem is Ford made 2 shades of this color, a lighter one (Layla's) and a darker one (my previous 88's). I've found the large Dupli-Color can of some GM red is almost spot-on. I'll look for the cap over the weekend and post it's part#.

If you go to a Sturdevants (not sure if there is one by you, but there might be a similar auto parts store) and give them your paint code they can mix you up a can.  I got a full can of the medium taupe for my lower half for under $10 and it is perfect.

I just looked at the map and there is not a Sturdevants near you, so I guess you will have to find a different store with a similar service.

Medium Red...well, there was a can of GM Medium Red Metallic on the shelf at Advance but it was not the right shade. Ford had no "medium red", Electric Currant Red was the only thing even remotely close. That's what I don't get, I find closer matches in the GM and Import sections than in the Ford section.

What sucks is that I was at wal-mart a few weeks ago, and they had a can of some Toyota dark red metallic (which I think is what this can I originally got is also) but I didn't buy it, and then when I went back a few days later to buy it, it was gone and there weren't any left  I looked at a different wal-mart and they didn't even have the color. I'll have to go back to that store and check, I guess.

Even if you found some of the original paint it wouldn't match. Paint, especially red, fades over time.

Well this car was supposedly repainted twice. The paint doesn't look faded to me.

What I'm gonna tell you is that you need to go to a Auto paint mixing store. I work at oreilly and when I worked in a paint mixing store we could use this dupont device to scan your car and mix touch up paint and such to match.  We had to have the main paint store do it but we could also have them mix it and put it into a spray can. It would cost about $12 a can though. Then you still need to clear it depending on what kind of paint you had them mix it in.  Check a local dupont piant mixer about this I know it can be done If you lived around hear I would  take you to my old store and do it for you.
