I would have thought "performance" was "standard" in a TC.  :dunno:

For changing the steering rack:
Performance = 15:1 ratio (aka "high-effort").
Standard = 20:1 ratio.

Easy way to check what you've got now (if the old rack is still in the car); turn the wheel all the way in either direction. Make a note of its position. Turn it all the way the other way, counting how many times it turns.

Almost 3 turns = standard.
A bit less than 2 1/2 = performance.

Or you could just go by the "All 87-88 Birds and Cougars have the 15:1 rack" option :D I think they dropped the 20:1 rack in mid '86

Well, my 88 base didn't when I got it 10 years ago, but it does now.

The printed information about 1987-88 cars seems to be wrong...I've heard from plenty of people that have a 20:1 rack in their LS/LX, at least in the U.S. The 15:1 rack was installed in the Sport, Turbo Coupe and XR7 only from what I can tell. Everything else got the 20:1 rack. Would have been nice if Ford had done that for us...oh well.
