Car Alarms January 02, 2006, 11:47:07 PM I'm really getting tired of this , so I'm just going to get a car alarm for the hell of it (and add remote entry).I was looking at Autopage's RS-855LCD alarm at a shop today and was curious what experiences people ahve had with them. It costs about the same as DEI's top of the line Viper so I'm unsure which to go with. All I know is the Autopage transmits via FM instead of AM, but the rest of the features are about the same.Suggestions? Quote Selected
Car Alarms Reply #1 – January 03, 2006, 12:12:00 AM Don't know if you have looked at Cliford alarms but I would recommend the G5 I have a matrix on my van and like it. The G5 needs to have proffesional install it though. I was talking with on eof the Cliford reps that does it for a living and he told me he would have my vehicle for 2 days before it was installed and ready to go. Quote Selected
Car Alarms Reply #2 – January 03, 2006, 01:24:14 AM Yeah, this place supposedly carries Clifford also, although I didn't see it on showcase. The Clifford site says they do.Any reason why you recommend them? Don't see anything that sticks out above other Directed products Quote Selected

Car Alarms Reply #4 – January 07, 2006, 01:19:37 AM id say that clifford rep is pullin your leg or making something up. I was in the business for 6 years doing high end audio and car security. Its been a hobby of mine for 13 years. Id say any alarm depending on what all you have hooked up for example Keyless entry and trunk release, Should take a total of 2-4 hours. now it is possible to have it up and working in 30min but that would be without hiding the wiring and such which is the cheap hillbilly way LOL. I spent about 6 hours installing a Viper alarm on my mustang. I have Keyless entry, starterkill/ fuel pump kill, Trunk release, gas door release, and 4 blue Leds on the inside and 2 Led Scanners in the third brake light. Every wire i ran is in the stock wiring loom. everything is hidden including the siren which is in the fender well behind the plastic inner fender Quote Selected
Car Alarms Reply #5 – January 07, 2006, 02:19:42 AM Yeah, this place said it'd be about 3 hours to install everything offered, except the remote start which I didn't want included. You should do my install Sounds like quality work. Quote Selected
Car Alarms Reply #6 – January 07, 2006, 11:17:54 AM Well the Cliford rep I talked to is a good friend that I trust. Which means he will do what ever it takes to make me happy. That quote was for a 1995 aerostar. And the alarm included the anit hijacker kit and keyless entry on a car that didn't have it to begin with. I sold that car and bought a 2000 Caravan and asked him about it again and he told me 6 hours on that one. So it all depends on what you want and what type of car you have as to how long it will take to install it. Quote Selected

Car Alarms Reply #8 – January 07, 2006, 09:09:53 PM ewww a Caravan. One company i hate when it comes to alarm systems and remote starts is Chrysler. I did my Girlfriends grandparents Fully loaded Chrysler minivan about a year ago and it was a PITA!!! They wanted everything on one remote so i had to wire up the automatic sliding side door and the automatic lift gate along with keyless entry, Domelight supervision and the remote start. They use 1 wire for Headlights and parking lights so you have to wire in 2 different resistors on the same wire so it will trigger them. it also has the stupid factory security in the key and the starter wire uses a different voltage than all the others. Ya i hate them. 6hours would be about right considering they suck azzBTW cougarSE did you ever call me??? i miss alot of calls on my py cell LOL Quote Selected

Car Alarms Reply #10 – February 06, 2006, 04:47:48 PM How much do those clifford things cost? They looked pretty sweet but they didnt list their prices on the website. About how much would the most expensive one be? Just curious. Quote Selected
Car Alarms Reply #11 – February 06, 2006, 06:13:00 PM I bought a black widow because I've heard nothing but good things about them. Fry's had one on discount because of it not selling during xmas so I bought it up at 200. It's got all the same features as the clifford except the extended range deal thats DEI patented. I went about starting to install it, stopped to let an installer do it, and figured it wouldn't be worth it in my car in my town until it had something people wanted. Right now, a pioneer head unit and a god awful amount of dip isnt in full demand apparently, cause I always accidently leave it unlocked at night. Out here in the boondocks I don't gotta worry too much. I think when I go to college, it'll be a different story. Quote Selected

The Cliffords also come with all the extra stuff so you don't have to go buy another part like the ones they sell a Best Buy or Circut City. Quote Selected
