Replacing throttle cable.

My local autzone carries the throttle cable I need to replace my worn out and stretched cable. I read on cool cats that I also have to replace the TV or linkage to the tranny or whatever it was. Well, the only thing I can see that goes from the throttle to the tranny is a metal rod thingy which looks like it's in good condition. It moves freely when I push it down.
It's $40 at the zone and mine is so stretched that the pedal is maybe 2 inches from the floor. How hard is it to replace it? I've got the money to do it and I need to do it so this one doesn't snap while i'm driving.

The throttle cable I got for my 3.8L '85 Cougar from partsamerica.com (Autozone shows the same part #; Pioneer Prods. CA8450) didn't have spot for the cruise control cable. Anybody know who carries one which does?

The actual replacement isn't too difficult if I remember correctly. There is a clip on the interior side of the firewall that needs to be taken off (it caused me some grief). On the exterior side, there are two bolts that need to be undone. After these two things are done, the cable can be removed. Assembly is reverse of removal.
