The verdict on the rep points system

Well we had the poll and it showed that of those who actuallly know what the rep point system is, most want it disabled. I had actually forgotten all about the poll until a certain member that shall remain nameless but possibly owns a Cougar SE () brought the topic up. Results of the poll notwithstanding, Eric, Baxo and I have discussed the issue in private and have decided that we like watching you guys bitch about it :flip: so it's staying.

Actually, while we do like watching you guys bitch about it, that's now why it's staying. The reason it's staying is this: If you don't like it, you can turn it off. Simply go to your User CP, go to edit options, and deselect "show profile". Now you are no longer partiting in the rep points thing. You will have a grey square like Eric's instead of a green or red square.

This should keep everyone happy - those that rely on rep points to make them feel important can continue to smooze for 'em, while those that don't can sit on the sidelines and watch the silliness. And those who don't even know what the system is will continue on, blissful in their ignorance.

So there you have it. If you like it, keep it. If you don't, turn it off. The power is in your hands.

You know, I was wondering where the spot was to turn it off....thanks for pointing that out.

Off now.

To me it really does not matter, but instead of blindly feeding the silliness, I choose to abstain.

Thanks Carmen! I've turned mine off! I did find out that I had 93 rep points though. but it only showed like 6 in my control panel.

Oh and from what it looks like, we can see our own rep points but no one else can.  I can't see yours Karl.

You can still vote on other people even with your own disabled, too.

You can also vote on people with rep disabled, and it will increase their rep.

Go ahead and look at your User CP, CougarSE. :p

Well, if you say so, then I believe you.
However, my computer thinks otherwise.  :dunno:
