Jeep eats Plus

Lifted Cherokee with a bar bumper rear ended me in traffic in the mall parking lot. There are extra stop signs this time of year and it slows things down a lot more, it was at a move one car stop and sit, move stop and sit pace. Well I moved stopped sat... Then he thought it was time to move again so he did. My bumpers highest point was right at his bumpers lowest point so he drove right over it. 17 year old kid, I tried to be as cool as possible because I know what its like to be in his position. Get a report done, I get a ticket for expired insurance card (my fault, should of printed off new ones), he gets off without one. This was Tuesday. I let Wednesday go by and try to figure out what to do, his Dad calls and wants to settle outside of insurance. Thats fine with me as long as I get paid for my car. He wants to come look at it so I tell him Im off at 3 tomorrow come before then. I explain its not repairable, and he tells me his "brother" (who later turns into just a friend) has a body shop and could do it cheap. No, not okay I dont know what kind of work they do. He shows up at 4:10 Thursday after I call at 3 to find out where they are. Take some pictures, I explain and show why it is not repairable, he tells me what his insurance company said they would give in excellent condition(2k) and thats the most. I told him I planned on just building another one so Id be buying it back. He told me he cant see it being worth paying out of pocket for that we can just go through insurance. Fine with me, Im going to get paid for it no matter what.

So now that he has wasted my time I cant get anything started with the insurance company until Monday. He calls me again on my way home and ask what Im thinking I need. I explained its worth 2K, Id buy it back for 500, so I need 1500. He tells me he was thinking more like 1000. Not okay with me so insurance it is. I dont know what kind of math he is doing but his kid is already in trouble for speeding, an accident isnt going to help his insurance at all. Lets say he has a $500 deductible, over the next few years he doesnt think he will pay a grand atleast on higher rates? He is already ahead of the game not getting a ticket.

More news as things progress

(Doesnt look horrible in this picture but it actually pushed that tail light panel in pretty good)

It pulls the 1/4s in. It will never line up right again. Im not about having cars with 50lbs of bondo on them either.

*Anything can be fixed. There is a cost and sacrifice, I dont see the cost or the sacrifice of things not being correct

Did the quarters buckle or something that I can't see in the picture? It looks to me like it just needs a trunk lid, spoiler, tail light, and whatever you call that piece under the license plate. I wouldn't call that totaled, but it's hard to tell from one pic.

EDIT- Whoops- didn't see the post above.

Gotta love it when people don't want to accept full responsibility for their actions, huh?

You only want one if the cams have been welded. Otherwise you're looking at the possibility of cam failure.

DVP, I'm sorry to hear your car was damaged that way. I hope things work out, that car is definitely worth keeping though. If it helps I think I have a set of SHO taillights from my old 91SHO.

Im not going to fix it unless thats the only option I have. It will never be the same. As happy as I was with this car and as much as I dont want to see it go, I can build a cleaner car with more stuff for less than fixing it. Thanks for the offer though.

Also to clear things up "Plus" was an option package. Only available in 91, and the only way to get a green 91 was with the Plus option. Only 900 green 91 were made, all Plus'. Only way to tell a TRUE Plus is the chrome trim around the windows. The Plus hood came on a lot of 91s, the spoiler was easily added to any other car. The trim line is also body color vs black on other SHOs, Mirrors were also black along with the door pillars, 24v metal emblems on the fenders,  body colored Taurus emblem on trunk, I think thats it.

So I went from having a possible collectible to just another turdbucket Taurus...

I personally dont think that is enough damage to cry over, I destroyed my header panel and a new set of head lightshiznitting a dear.. you just have to pick up the pieces and rebuild.  if all of us junked our cars over minor damage like that then none of our cars would be around anymore.  go get the thing fixed and move on with your life chances are you wont even be able to tell that anything happened in the first place once its fixed.

You dont fully understand the damage then. It isnt bolt in shiznit. My Cougar has been though a lot of incidents and Ive just bolted on new front end parts. Ive pulled the front end out on my 92 SHO. The 1/4 are pulled in, now they have to be pulled out, then the tail light panel needs to be cut out of another car along with the support behind it and welded in around and behind the 1/4s.

Strip Crush Rebuild.
