Are the transmissions from a 1993 Sunbird and a 1996 Monte Carlo (both 3.1L) interchangeable?

  Thanks

check the tranny pans if they are the same id guess that they could be swapped(the tranny that is) but take mesurements of the drive lines and all that and do reserch as mutch on each tranny as possibul. but im not 100% sure if the trannys are interchangabul.

I think the Cavalier would have a 3T40 (THM 125) three-speed, while the Monte would have a 4T40E four-speed. I would doebt that they interchange

Try asking a local auto wrecker, they should have the majic interchange book that would say wether they are the same or not. Or maybe the door tag would have the same codes from model to model :dunno:

I ended up with the same problem going from a turbo chrysler to a non turbo, they looked the same but were totaly different.

Thanks b'ys.

I've checked with the local used parts places and they are listed as different. Oh well, I thought I had a transmission sold :( may be I'll have better luck next time.
