She got a lil' touch-up today..

I finally got tired of the almost-matched light blue that didn't match very well from body panel to body panel.. so yesterday I picked up 3 cans of Dupli-Color truck and SUV paint in Gunmetal (metallic) and went to work. Got cut off by lack of light yesterday, but today I finished, a little over 2 and a half cans later.

Mind you, this is still a temporary thing. I'll figure out something more permanent once I deal with the rust on the bottoms of the doors. I just can't stand looking at primer spots or treated/untreated rust spots. This'll do for now.

See that all around the car? GREEN! In late November. 70 degrees and sunny, too. That's why we put up with hurricanes.  :giggle: (the camera doesn't show it, but the sky's about as blue as the top of the car)

I've done so much spray painting lately, I have a blister on my sprayin' finger.

(I'll put a thread in User Rides once I've figured out what I'm going to post of each T-bird.. I'd like to do it all at once.. and yeah, it'll probably be very long-winded like my old-board User Rides thread, too) :p

She got an extra lil' touch-up today after the paint dried..

Picked up some gloss black paint (the 500 degree engine paint.. it's just what I'm used to working with.. no special reason) and some wire wheel cleaner. Popped off all the hubcaps, sprayed and brushed them down, and painted the wheels black to cover up the surface rust forming. It's not much of a big deal, but it does make the cleaned wire wheels stand out a little better.

All in all, it was a pretty good day.. I really like how everything came out.. but my lungs are probably trashed from all that spray paint. I really should wear a mask or something.. but I was counting on the breeze to take all that little metallic sparkly s*** away. (which it did, for the most part.. after about 5 seconds.. lol)

No real point to this thread, unless it inspires someone else to experiment a little. I mainly wanted to torment some of you with the picture of lack of white stuff on the ground. :giggle:

I did that same thing to my first Thunderbird, even using the same SUV paint (they only put SUV on the can so they can charge more, of course). It came out really good - mine was light sage green metallic over the charcoal.

Yeah, I figure they probably marked it like that to charge more.. but it's the only paint (aside from the specialty applications like caliper and high-heat) that they keep in that section of Wally-World and AutoHole around here.. so it's not like I chose it because of the label. :D

I really like how the gunmetal came out. It's a lot lighter in the right light. Any darker and it risked swallowing up the bumper strip.
