Problem Viewing this board October 30, 2005, 05:53:41 PM I seems that when ever a start up my computer (from being shut off, not hibernating) and access this page I get several popup ads for something called WinFix. These ads are made to look like the "program" is scanning my pc and finding errors.Naturally I assumed that this was a virus or something bad and just closed the popups. But they keep comming back.I installed the latest version of ad-aware and ran it but the popups are back. Also, norton finds no viruses. My question is, what anti-spyware program should I look into getting? Does anyone alse have this problem?Relevant info:Dell Inspiron 1150Windows XP ProfessionalInternet Explorer (the newest version)DSL high speed internet Quote Selected
Problem Viewing this board Reply #1 – October 30, 2005, 06:58:52 PM You have spyware. This site has no popups. Sounds like you may have a trojan or hijacker. You can try the various anti-spyware programs (Ad aware, Spysweeper, etc) but you will have to run them in safe mode because those programs can't delete an active program. Quote Selected

Problem Viewing this board Reply #4 – October 31, 2005, 06:14:30 AM use spybot too. Most spyware ridden computers dont last a really long time against adware. Adware just erases or removes the file. It dosent "fix" them. Quote Selected

I only use Spybot Ad-aware AVG Virus scan and sygate fire wall, all are free from http://www.download.com I refuse to pay for software to keep my PC clean, I wont go into the reasons here. but try these you'll never buy another protection software. Problem Viewing this board Reply #6 – October 31, 2005, 09:22:59 AM AVG antivirus from free.grisoft.com and microsoft anti-spyware from microsoft.com/downloads Both programs are free and update on a regular basis. I use both of these in my shop and on clients pc's. One note microsofts anti-spyware will only work on win 2000 and newer. For the older operating systems i recommend spybot. Quote Selected
Problem Viewing this board Reply #7 – October 31, 2005, 10:01:48 PM I just tryed the microsoft anti-spyware (in safe mode) and it picked up five things that ad-aware missed. So I guess microsoft is the way to go. Quote Selected
