odometer quick working??

so i was driving to work yesterday and i looked down and noticed that my odometer and trip meter was not working, it's stuck between 175,999 and 176,000, anyone come across this? and if so how do i go about fixing it???  thanks for any replys, Joe

at least yours hasn't reset back to 100,000 miles like mine just did!
(my odo. rolled back when it hit 199,999  miles-they all do, btw, 87-88 cars do, far as I know)

Sounds like maybe the vss might have come out...

buttstuffog speedo? Probably a bit of dirt or something stuck in the gears, or the stepper motor or circuit board has gone bad. My post at the beginning of this section shows how to take it all apart, if you feel up to it. Or try giving the dash/gauge pod a few good thumps and see if it loosens it up.

I assume the speedo part still works? If so, the VSS in the trans is fine.
