Power Door Lock Motor

Its always something..  ;)  The drivers side door lock froze - even a key wouldn't turn it.  Had to get in from the passenger side.

It ended up being the power door lock motor in the door froze up.  I pulled the motor and sprayed WD40 in it.  After much soaking, it moves again, but still gets stuck and is inconsistent in pulling the lock up or down.  I think it rusted up on the inside.

This one for Crown Vic looks a lot like it, anyone know if it will work?,  Any cheaper alternatives?

I used a cheap universal one after being told by my parts place (that is also my employer) that the original type is no longer available. In retrospect I very likely could've used another Ford one, like that Crown Vic one you're looking at, but for $9 my solution worked pretty well. One thing I like about it is that it pulls just as hard as the factory one but does so in a softer way, so it's not as hard on the linkage. Those factory ones are like WHAM! every time they move. I can actually hear the still stock passenger lock from inside the house when I hit the remote button.

The theory on Ford factory door lock actuators is that the motors are the same, just the rods coming out the top are different, depending on the car and/or lock style. So you could use a Mustang one, just have to swap over your rod. It's not terribly difficult to do...just have to be careful. Pry out the lock washer and there's a metal cover with 3 ball bearings inside. Those little suckers will drop and you'll never find them again. It's amazing...I swear they vanish into thin air. Anyhow...yes, I think those will work Joe. :)

Thanks  ,  I'll try taking the bad one apart to get more familiar with it so I can just pick a Mustang orr universal one up from the parts store & save that $12 shipping.

I always thought the power locks were simple solenoids, I was surprised to see they are spinning motors.
