Not Cat related, but need a little help quick

Hey guys, I know someone who is looking to buy a used car and found an 04 Accord two door (yuck, rice) for $4500.  This seeming to be too good to be true, I looked at the reply email she got from the seller who wants to use a third party pay site called "Bid Pay".  I am going to do some checking out on the site, but off hand, has anyone heard of it?  Is it legit?

He even says he'll ship for free, supposedly he has to move to London.  Something really looks wrong here and I want to make sure it would be a sfae deal for her.

There is nothing wrong with the car, miles are average, etc.  I told her to get a CarFax on the car.

Any help is much appreciated.

Stay away from it. Bidpay has absolutely no way to protect the buyer. At least with PayPal you can do a chargeback, but BidPay has no such protection. BidPay is Ok for small purchases, but a car? It sounds fishy to me.

If she really wants the car she should go pick it up and pay in person (or not pay, if the car turns out to be not like its description). Speaking of description, is it an eBay car? If so, do some research on the seller. Look at their other auctions - if they've got a whole bunch of "too good to be true" cars, it's likely fraud. If it says anywhere in the auction "do not contact me through ebay, comtact me at this email address: somebody@anything.com" that's another red flag - it means the person hijacked somebody's eBay account and does not want you to use the "Ask seller a question" option because the true owner would get the question, alerting them that somebody is using their account

Actually, after doing a little more research with the guy last night, he won't give a phone number to talk to him, the location of the car (which should only be about 10 minutes from my house), or the VIN number or anything else....I told my friend to get away from it and possibly report it to the police to see if they wanted to investigate (ha, ha).  Thanks for the info about BIDPAY!

If it is acutally a one year old accord selling for $4500,  It has been stolen, burnt, crashed, in a flood or hurricane, etc...
Run like hell away from it.

I found out what it is....she still really wanted it and didn't want to heed my warnings, but I got her to agree to at least do the CarFax.  The results??  It is a car that is at a dealership in Texas (after the guy told her it was local, upstate NY).  He doesn't own it, never did, and the dealership sure as hell wants more than $4500 for it.  She contacted the dealership and let them know and also let the auto website know...they are both hungry to get this guy now and are both trying to pursue legal action!

The National Automobile Dealers Association says consumers need a title database to avoid buying a flood-damaged or totaled vehicle. About half of the estimated 570,000 vehicles damaged by flooding from Hurricane Katrina are likely to make it back onto the market.

Just one more scam we have to watch out for! :nono:
