Another "Pissed OFF!!" thread

i went to United Speedometer & Elec. today, to have my new speedometer mileage matched to my old one. i took the new speedo out of the old cluster, and tried myself, but i couldnt get the gears in right. i called these people this morning, and the lady said it wouldnt be a problem. i also asked if they could recalibrate it for 140mph. she said they would have to look at it.

well, during my lunch today, i took the short drive to their shop, and walked into the customer entrance. a guy comes out, and asks "how can i help you?" i told him i called earlier, and i would like to get the milage on this odometer to match my old one to be legit. he said he would need to see the mileage on the other one. i said no problem, the car is outside. he starts walking outside. constantly looking at the car and the speedo in hand at the time. i follow him out there with the keys, so i can show him the mileage. he asks "what are you trying to do?" i told him that i have another cluster that i want to swap in that has buttstuffog gauges. my dash is digital(1988 thunderbird). he says "it wont work". "yes, it will work", i told him. "it's not out of a thunderbird!", he replies. "Yes, it is!. i pulled it out of the same year turbo coupe!". again, he says, "ive never seen one of these in a thunderbird." i said, "im not here asking if it will work. im here for you to roll the mileage to the current one." he says, "bring me the cluster." i said, "im not bringing you shiznit!". i then rip the speedo from his hands, get in my car, and drive off. he's still talking, while im closing the door.

that was the shiznittiest experience ive ever had with a BUSINESS. they also did state inspections there, too. i was going to get one, but since their employee decided to show his ignorance, im taking my business elsewhere. i dont recommend this company to anybody, is my point. this guy basically called me a liar, and i did not appreciate that!

I can understand your frustration. Some places do put you out to be the idiot like you don't know what you're talking about.
Before I put the H.O. in my car, I visited the Ford dealer. In talking to the service guy, he told me that an H.O. would not workn in my car. He spent a good 10 minutes trying to convince me that it wouldn't. When I got the car all together, you should have seen the look on his face when I proved him wrong.
I also had a couple exhaust places tell me that my H-pipe wouldn't fit.

If it's just reseting the odo, thats not a big deal. Once you get the correct setting, keep it in place with a small piece of masking tape while you reassemble it...

To bad they don't have a web site or email addy, we could all send him a pix of our clusters and call him a dumb ass...

Even so someone has to be that guys boss. I worked at a parts store and I kinda get where he was coming from ,but unlike him I was in business to sell parts and make money. I guess some This won't work might be OK but god knows what the customer is gonna do with it any way so shut the HELL up and give me what I want Cuase I'm the part of the reason you get a pay check dumb ass. All in all talk to his boss and tell him how that made you feel and what he can do to make it all better just be realistic. Stuck

Does yours have the number wheels held in place by little plastic gears on a shaft? I just did one of mine on the kitchen counter to remind myself how I did it when I first bought the thing, and took a bunch of step-by-step pictures too. Takes maybe 20 minutes start to finish.

I'll have the pics shrunk and edited later today (time for me to go to sleep now) but the main things are:

1 - The little gears have long teeth and short teeth. They need to be assembled so the short tooth goes in the gap while the two long teeth on either side "brace" the wheel from turning until the notch in the wheel next to it comes along.

2 - The gears & shaft need to go back so it's covering the visible numbers, not the gap between them.
Death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth.
