I don't know what kind of Jeep you're driving, but if it's anything like the two Cherokees I owned you're better off with the Cougar. The 4-cyl one was the worst at about 10MPG (the engine had to work so hard just to maintain 60MPH), and the 6 cyl one got about 20. The T-Bird gets about 28-30 on the highway, and I've even averaged 33.4 MPG on one 60-mile trip

I have an '88 comanche with the 2.5L with about 170,000 miles on it and maybe I'm just getting lucky, but I usually get about 25-30 mpg with it.  Does it really matter if it's a manual or not?

You don't live in Atlantic Canada. In Nova Scotia every gas station within 300 miles of Halifax (in other words, every station in the province) is with two cents of each other. In metro Halifax itself (Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and Sackville) every single station has an identical price. Not so much as a 0.1 cent difference. Anywhere. Which is why the oil compnanies' claims that the free market should set the price is a joke (they claim this every time the public demands regulation).

In New Brunswick the price is nearly identical to Nova Scotia and is uniform across the province. Only in PEI is it under a buck, but that's 'cuz it's regulated there - the government decides whether gas stations can raise the price. Come the end of August, when they have their monthly review, I would bet the title to my car that the price will go well over a buck.

Newfoundland is also regulated, but they obviously had a mid-month price adjustment.

I think the auto makes a huge difference in those vehicles - the four cylinder Cherokee was way underpowered as it was, and bogging that poor li'l 2.5 down with a slushbox made it even worse. Add to that the weight of the 4WD system, and the fact that the Cherokee is quite a bit heavier than the Commanche, and I think I can see why you get such good mileage. The 4-cyl was just working too hard. My 6-cyl got WAY better mileage.

I get about 20-25 MPG in the Dakota on the highway (88, long box, V6, 3-speed auto, 4X4) and probaly do better than the T-Bird in the city, but not better enough to make me want to drive it. No A/C sucks arse, and I like my T-Bird enough to justify driving it around town at the expense of a MPG or two...

Just went up again today, now at $2.85 a gallon, this is gonna stop soon, right? :mad:

No joke, even popping the clutch in my comanche, I'm lucky if I can spin the tires on gravel. :hick:

That's not too bad, 20-25 mpg for a dakota like that, not bad at all.  So I parked the cougar a lil earlier than planned, I need to try to save all the money I can.  BTW, there's ALWAYS a/c, just open the windows. :giggle:

gas around here is about 2.80 for premium,

but what really sucks, is i was reading an article about how the GOV. ( great people they are) are going to try and tax people that don't get 20 MPG or more,

i say " we are allready being taxed !! " dick heads...

The aceatone thing sounds right, it's not used as a replace ment, just an additive that breaks up the moleculer structer of gas, making it burn hotter/ more efficently

gas allready obviously doesn't burn all that clean, hense the cat's under your car,

on the other hand...i don't see why people keep bitching about gas prices...nobodys ever going to do any thing about it....people would have to stop buying gass for 2 weeks  NOBODY..and walk to work..catch the bus...some thing like that.... use modes of mass transportation,  any body rember a while back that e-mail that was going around ? telling every body, for " just one day " nobody buy gas ?? all is well.. but all your going to do is make the other people buy gas the day before, or the day after,

AMERICA NEEDS TO STAND UP AND FIGHT...(CANADA CAN COME TOO) !!!

Tanks, planes, and helicopters use more fuel than anything that ever rode the tarmac.

Absolutely right. I remember seeing those emails and hearing about 'em on TV and the next day I'd be at work (gas station, it just so happens) and I'd see no decline in sales at all.  Fact is, some people's jobs rely on the fact that they fill up every day.  Plus, it's not crippling anyone becaue the fuel stations have already purchased the fuel in the tanks, so an action like that wouldn't even touch the "big evil oil companies".
