might call and see what it came out of, if I recall correctly, some Camaros came with em..
my point is, make sure it's what ya need (input shaft, bellhousing), before ya spend money.

Yea be sure what it's from, but $600 for a complete 5.0 setup thats in good cond ain't a bad deal.

Does that go for TC T-5's too? Or just the Ranger/Mustang 2.3n/a T-5's? If so, why not? Is the TC tranny less durable than 302 Mustang T-5's?

The 4cyl Strang tranny is identical to the TC unit. They have a 240ft lb rating, so it ain't gonna live behind a 5.0 if you go rippin' on it. The better 5.0 trannys are in the 310-330 ft lb rating, but some of the early ones were as low as 265 ft lb. Also the gears are a lot deeper in the 4cyl trans, 1st is 3.97 vs 3.35(early) or 2.95 for the 5.0 trans. The 2.95 1st gear trannys are stronger than the 3.35 units. I busted one of the 3.35 gear trannys in a stock 5.0 Stang.

As far as the Rangers getting T5s maybe the late ones, but most have the junky MR52, same as the Super Coupes.

Thanks for the info guys, tryin to get in touch with the guy now.

Oh would it be practical to buy one of these 4 cyl T5's and rebuild it for V8 performance cause those 4 cyl trannies are dirt cheap and plentiful around here.

NOPE.... Just about everything is different, including the case.. The 4cyl trans uses a larger front bearing because of the different gears required for the deep 1st gear ratio, so it actually is machined differently(otherwise it would be the same).

Well FordTruckFreeek was right it came out of a camero, the guy did say it was possible to get a different cluch thingy and flywheel and bellhousing and it should work. I'll look into that tommorrow before moving on to a new plan.
  Thanks again peoples :)

The shifter is farther up toward the case on most of the GM units, also the output shaft is different(27 splines vs 28).... Would take a lot of adapting...

I thought that only the FMS trannys had the 2.95 1st gear (T-5Z) with the 330 ft/lb capacity (better OD ratio also, 0.63:1 vs 0.68:1) mainly because it's for guys who have done mods to their cars with rear gears. It's my understanding that all 5.0's from 1987 up to 1993 had the 3.35:1 1st gear with only a 10 ft/lb higher capacity after 1990.
