Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! July 27, 2005, 01:36:01 PM Hey all,Did anybody besides me happen to notice the pair of '86 Cougar vent-window doors that sold on Ebay the other day for $0.99?! Man, why do I have to live so far away from every cool thing on Ebay? I would love to find a set of those doors at a decent price and a decent distance.By the way, the guy said in his description that Ford/Mercury only made 5000 vehicles with the vent-window doors. Is that true? I know they were somewhat limited, but only 5000, between T-birds and Cougars from '83 to '86? Maybe he just meant '86, but even that sounds low. Can anybody confirm or disprove this?Fordman3 Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #1 – July 27, 2005, 02:08:12 PM I have a complete set of doors with the windows in them and a complete set out of doors. Minus the drivers vent window but I still have the frame the car was broke into. You could probalby get a glass place to cut a window for you.Interested? Quote Selected

Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #3 – July 27, 2005, 03:56:45 PM Oh, and about the vent windows...To install them you need the shorter main windows, and the related tracks and weatherstripping. All the holes needed to bolt things up are already in the door. I believe you'd need different regulators for the main windows though. Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #4 – July 27, 2005, 03:59:03 PM The vent windows I have don't roll down they fold out. Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #5 – July 27, 2005, 05:03:49 PM I rephrased that last comment. The regulators for the main window on cars with the vent window option, I believe, are different from standard windows. Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #6 – July 27, 2005, 07:02:12 PM slamedcat,Just to make sure I understand what you've got, you have a complete pair of vented doors with the glass in them. I don't think I'd want to try to mount the glass, frames, and regulators in my current doors. I'd rather just swap the complete doors. So is that what you have? If so, what condition are the doors in (rust, dents, etc.) and what would you ask for them? Thanks.Eric,Thanks for the info, also.Fordman3 Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #7 – July 27, 2005, 07:59:58 PM I will try and make it out to my parents place this weekend to snap some pics of everthing. Yes they are grey doors off a 84 TC with the vent windows in them. They have some rust not sure how much right now they have been sitting for about 4 years now. Depending on how bad they are I would ask $150 on the high side and $100 on the low side but I am nagotable and will consider trades. Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #8 – July 30, 2005, 12:52:13 AM Eric (by the way, my name is Eric, too),I might re-consider on doing the vent-window modification to my original doors now that I think about it. My doors are suprisingly rust-free. However, I have no experience with changing out door windows, window motors, glass, regulators, etc. Just how hard of a job would it be? You mentioned a different regulator; please excuse a dumb question, but can you tell me exactly what a window regulator is, why possibly a vent-window door would differ from a standard-window door, and how one would go about changing one out? Does it entail totally disassembling the door. I've done several door swaps without a lot of hassle (if you don't count lifting, balancing, and generally wrestling with an 80 lb door by yourself), but never had to go into a lot of detail. I especially dread anything that involves swapping out a power window motor. You can tell I really have no idea what I'm looking at, so please advise.slamedcat,Like I was telling Eric, I might consider the windows you have minus the doors. Do you think there are any salvage yards with a replacement vent window? No yard in my area has a T-bird/Cougar with those doors, and most haven't even heard of such a thing. If you do get some pictures of your doors, please send them. I don't know if I could even afford $100 right now, but is there anything in particular you are needing in trade? I don't have a whole bunch, but I am about to take apart an '84 LS that I'm stealing a rear axle, core support, and exhaust from for my "new" '83 LS. I'll have almost the whole interior minus carpet from it (beige plush LS cloth); seats are very nice, so is console, panels, dashpad does have a crack right in the middle. The motor runs very strong, but it is leaking coolant from the back of the motor when it gets warm. I really don't think it's a head gasket, because there's no white smoke. I'm probably gonna drop its tranny and tank/fuel pump. Basically, I plan on just leaving a shell without the parts I've mentioned, with the motor still in it, and give it to a friend who has a trailer I'll have to use. Anything in that long-winded description sound interesting? Let me know.Fordman3 Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #9 – July 30, 2005, 09:34:42 AM just swap doors, it is easy all you have to do is cut/unplug a couple of wires and the 4 bolts. The window stuff would prolly not be worth the 10 mins the dorrs would take. I swapped out a door in about 10 mins my first time, with some practice 5 mins each easy. Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #10 – July 31, 2005, 03:47:50 PM haystack,Yeah, I've gotten the door swap down pretty well. I just hate the manhandling and then getting it level and straight. What I'm mainly saying is, I hate to give up my almost rust-free doors if 'slamedcat's' doors are a little rustier if I can do the window swap without much hassle. Hopefully Eric can tell me a little more about the window swap, and maybe 'slamed's' doors are pretty clean and I have something he'd like to trade for.slamedcat,Did anything I listed sound interesting to you? I'd still like to see pictures of your doors whenever you get a chance. Do you know if your doors are "Dark Charcoal Metallic (?)" by chance? That would be too cool if they were already the same color. If there's something in particular you are needing, I may accidentally have it. It's worth a try.EricAny advice? Thanks again to all for suggestions and help. Fordman3 Quote Selected

Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #12 – August 01, 2005, 01:04:45 PM slamedcat,Man, I don't have any aftermarket performance stuff. Wish I did. I've got 3 nice TRX wheels (4th got busted), 2 with center caps. Probably not what you had in mind for wheels. It's a shame that those wheels look so cool but are such a PITA. I wish somebody would design them in a 16". Gonna have an AOD tranny, stock (114k miles). Got a TC rear sway bar. That's about it. Have you been able to take any pics of your doors? Do you know if our colors match by chance? Thanks again for all your help.Fordman3 Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #13 – August 01, 2005, 01:43:44 PM The regulator is the scissor-like mechanism that glides on a track. When you give power to the window motor via the switch, the window slides up and down on that track, which keeps it aligned and working smoothly. Again, I'm not positive but I believe there is a different regulator for vent window doors. And yes, all this does require disassembly of the door. It's not really that bad to do, but dirty, tedious, and takes a bit of time.I would not recommend swapping the vent windows into a regular door unless you have all the parts in front of you from a donor car. Otherwise you'll be hunting down parts forever. Much easier to swap over the doors. Quote Selected
Re: Somebody got a great Ebay deal!! Reply #14 – August 03, 2005, 11:20:34 PM Ok got pics. The one looks bad but it is only surface rust. I also have the fenders to match if interested. Quote Selected
