Changing an oil pump

I don't remember if I've asked this before, I change my mind alot.....in any case I'm just wondering what the best way is to change the oil pump on a 302.  I know there's a crossmember in the way and I mostly want to know how best to support the engine and where.

I know when i changed mine i dropped the k-member down 1-2" then had to raise the motor 3-4" just to get the pan down  to get the pump out, raised the motor with a hoist and just let it hang (not to safe, just prayed alot) all i know is it was a pain in my a$$ and i ended up just taking the whole motor out because it wasn't the pump that was bad, anyway have fun!! :hick:

I second getting ahold of an engine hoist, and if you can, just unbolt from your tranny and pull the engine. You'll regret it less in the long run!

Hmm.  Seing as how it seems like a pretty good operation and I don't even know if a new pump would help anything maybe it really is better to buy a used engine to swap in so I can rebuild the original when I have time and money.  In the meantime I'll up the viscosity to ease things along.  Thanks though.
