Calling all know-it-alls July 30, 2005, 03:42:07 PM Ok...I just bought an 87 t-bird lx. picking it up next week. i have an uncle who is interested in finding an engine in a junk yard and doing a rebuild, and then a swap.now... i have a guy at work whos selling a 90 cougar xr7 i believe. i think hes got a blown head gasket and all the glass is smashed. i could pick this thing up for only a few hundred bucks.now my questions...1. could i do a rebuild of that engine (3.8 v6 w/supercharge i believe)and swap it with mine for a little more power?or could i just steal the supercharger and put it on my engine?2. The tranny was just rebuilt... worth keeping? interchangeable?3. new tires on it... could use em in a year4. possibly seats?5. other misc parts under the hood like water pump, etc. 6. power window motorsbasically, im asking if anyone knows if things like this are interchangeable between a 90 cougar and an 87 tbirdthe engine is my main concern....please any hellp is appreciated, hes gonna junk it in 2 weeks Quote Selected
Re: Calling all know-it-alls Reply #1 – July 30, 2005, 04:21:00 PM 90 Cougar = mn1287 T-bird = FoxEngine will swap with some work I know there is some one on here that has already done the swap.If the trans is an auto it is an AODE where ours is an AOD. Basicaly there is a computer that controld the shifting with the AODE.The bolt pattern of the MN12 is 5x4.25 where are is 4x4.25 so the rims will not swap. Quote Selected
Re: Calling all know-it-alls Reply #2 – July 31, 2005, 12:22:24 AM actually, the tranny is an AOD, and it is interchangableas for the engine, its not an easy swap, need to have a good amount of knowledge on both cars before you do the swap, because there is a lot of things thatll you run into that is things that only people who know each specific car will know Quote Selected
