I may still avoid it like I did 1 and 2 simply because it's the prequel . I'm still annoyed with Lucas for not doing 7-8-9 instead.. although there's talk that he's going to do them after all.

If I know anything about Lucas, I'd bet he only said he'd do the prequels to get more people in the theatres to see the 'last of the star wars movies'. The man is a marketing king. If it weren't for the fact that all the actors from 4-5-6 are too old now to play their old characters, I'd say he'd be doing it for sure. We'll see if he can get around it. It looks like the usual ILM amazing eye candy...but still the same lousy screen-play.  I'm sure it will be amazing to see...but I can guarrantee that the dialog will be stiff and just plain bad.

"Say, did you see that new PT-16"
"Yeah, some of the guys were telling me about it...they say it's quite a thing to see"

Name the movie and the scene..........

Natalie Portman is nice eye candy though...

I kind of hope he doesn't do 7-8-9.....his writing has gotten so bad, who knows what they would turn out like.  At least with this one he had to get from point A to point B.  It should be nice and dark though....it has the potential to unseat ESB as the best one ...

Read the Thrawn books.. those are the best candidates for a 7-8-9.

Every Star Wars film since Return of the Jedi stink - the story has been wittled down to the bare minimum.  The acting is laughable. The special effects are great, but a great story is better.

The books are terrible, and should not be considered part of the SW universe since they are from someone other than Lucas.

Empire Strikes Back is such a genius bit of filmmaking that everything that came after fails to live up to the action, story, and direction.

Wasn't Empire Strikes Back the only one not done by Lucas..? The best of the movies, NOT done by Lucas.. coincidence..?

Books are horrible, huh? I'd rather read the Thrawn books than watch most of the movies. Oh yeah.. books not part of the SW universe? Come play Star Wars Galaxies, a LucasArts/SOE product, where you can do missions for Thrawn. :D

Oh well.. we're still discussing my third-favorite sci-fi series here, and fading fast thanks to the prequel . If the BSG remake coming out next year is any good, SW just might fall to #4 on the list.

I just talked to Yoda...he told me to tell you, "Control your anger." ;)

ESB was directed by Irvin Kirshner; ROTJ was Richard Marquand. Weirdest thing about Empire was that the screenplay was a little over half done when the screenwriter (Leigh Brackett) passed away. So here was poor Irvin with a half-finished screenplay, directing the sequel to the biggest movie ever, filming in some of the worst winters recorded in Norway. Yet the film was brilliant. Why? The story. We CARED about the characters. Not so much with the prequels...the effects gave way to the plot. Most of the characters are throwaway. Too bad. I'm a firm believer that if the prequels were being made 10-15 years ago instead of today, they'd definitely have been more story-driven and not so dependant upon special effects. We loved the original trilogy because we loved the characters. We tolerate the prequels because they look good. That's the biggest difference. The movies jumped the shark a long time ago. They're a lot like Metallica's career:

SW = Kill 'Em All
ESB = Master of Puppets
ROTJ = ...And Justice For All
TPM = Black Album
AOTC = Load
ROTS = Reload? We'll see. ;)

Anger? I'm not into Star Wars enough to get angry over it. Did Yoda say anything to ya about overreacting to my posts? :D

My fiance REALLY loves SW.. she'd have probably been the one to rip him a new one for his post. I'm more into Babylon 5 and Deep Space Nine than SW.

from the topic of special effects, i think there amazing.  but i think they play to much of a role in the movies.  the story and characters almost seem based around it.  like say,.... JAR JAR  :shoothead

even to this day i love wathcing the originals, not the special edition.  all them aliens just seem not there being computerized.  but those 5 million wookies in that trailer should make up for some of it :D

Never really been into the whole sci fi thingy, I have one star wars video, not sure which one but it was okay. I would still rather watch oprah than star trek though :barf:

St. Anger = :slap:  :eek:  :nono:
Justice =  :bowdown:  :banana:  :tg:  :headbang:  :cool:
