How do I to repair stripped drivers seat track mounting nuts?

I'd been feeling a looseness in the drivers seat on my 87 Tbird  for a while now. I thought it was something worn out in seat track. What I found was that both of the front seat track bolts which mount the drivers seat track to the floor were loose. Went to tighten them but both of the welded in mounting nuts in the floor are stripped out. I could not get a good look at the nuts because they are under the carpet. For those of you that have had the carpet out of your cars or anyone that knows what those mounting nuts look like, can the nuts be repaired with a Helicoil thread insert?

I have my driver front right doing the same thing.

I did not know until i put the car back together the issue was present.

Go to true value hardware store or perhaps lowes.

in the hardware section there is a self anchoring / seating part called a "JACK Nut"

Another option and more difficult to install and requires you to use double wrenches and such ....but.... more reliable is the "NUTSERT".

google both terms but your problem will be solved with either solution.

you will need to make a choice,, lift up the carpet to get to the channel that this welded nut lives and properly drill & make room for your new anchor........

or.......
drill the welded nut out (with carpet in place) to allow you to drop in your new anchor,, and you may end up needing to use a different bolt thread pattern to match your anchor for that particular bolt.

either way,, not a hard fix.

only the rear two hardware mounts are passing through the floor to the outside world.
the two front are interior to the car but the nuts cant be gotten to at all.  they were welded to the tunnel / channel before the channel was welded to the floor pan.

I had that issue with one of the seat bolts on the driver seat right front. I just got a slightly larger bolt, retapped the hole, and all was good.

the ones i mentioned would allow you to drop in the new anchor into your existing stripped anchor.
