fuel tank strap mod

i didnt know exactly where to put this thread... but here goes.

Has anyone considered rotating the fuel tank straps so the bolts are just behind the rear bumper instead of way under along the axle?

The reason i point this out is that it seems much easier if you could simply take out the bolts just at the rear bumper area and then the tank simply slips down and out the rear.

Thoughts?

Dunno, maybe more of a corrosion issue with the bolts being back there?  Me personally I don't take my tank out that often so not much benefit.

Just asking but why is everyone so obsessed with fuel pump access? I stuck a 155lph Walbro in mine 10 years ago and it's still going strong (knock on wood lol).

The sn-95 mustangs swapped the straps around that way.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

im not obsessed with things related to fuel pump.
I am just taking the time to realize, rationalize and perhaps along the way improve on the existing designs of the car.
the tank goes in, there will be a 8'' x 4' long mud flap so to speak along the front of the tank.  this will prevent debris from getting on top of the tank.
This improvement was not stock and it should have been.
The sender and fuel pump will have an accessable connector you can unplug prior to dropping the tank to prevent typical damages we see to the harness.
The Tank itself will be bonded properly, i have a fuel pump chassis and sender chassis ground pigtail ready to bond to the cars frame.
These were not stock improvements.

just trying to aknowledge and solve past problems as we re-assemble the car,, thats all.

It's pretty easy to just pull the pins once the strap is loose. I just jack up against the fuel tanks, remove the straps all together then slowly lower it down. Once the jack is all the way down, there is plenty of room to unhook lines and connectors.

If I were to add a splice, id add it to the trunk area. The rubber plug that the wires go through can easily be pushed through the floor from the trunk, then you wouldnt have to undo any wires and the connector would at least be in the tank instead of open under the car.
